A Star, I Think - Part 3

I had the front pocket area of each shirt left over & thought, 'why not make a pillow from the mix.' As you can see, I kept the pockets, thinking, they would be perfect to place little momentos inside.
What are your thoughts? I'd love to hear from you.

Star, I'm Thinking - Part 2

I've added a row at the top and bottom of the body of the quilt to lend some length and that's that!!!

Now to get to work on the backing which sometimes takes longer to do than the top.....sigh
I'm using a couple of the t-shirts provided and the rest of the HSTs.

Finally done with the backing. Yeah!!!
Now I'll need to quilt everything and present it to her.........I'm going to buckle down and get this done. You've heard it here!!

This is my own design that I sketched out a few years ago. Feel free to use it.

My friend Guilitta asked about the design I used for the star. I hope I explained well enough about the construction but might have fallen short.
So I'll try again to explain.  The block size can be "your own choice" that's the beauty of this design. If you're making a mini quilt to a king-sized quilt. I used 6 1/2 inch blocks for the memory quilt because I was working with fabric from her husband's shirts.
There are several ways to make HSTs and it's easy to find out on youTube.  I hope I've explained a bit better.

It's Been Awhile

Greetings blogger friends! It's been awhile since I've posted. I've been very busy working on my family's history, developing the family tree and looking thru photos. It's time consuming but I've learned a lot. Mom's memory is great for her age of 82. She only need a magnifying glass to see some of the older photos. We laughed a great deal as the stories pour out.

That's me at ten near our two room school. I have fond memories of those days.

Columbus Day

In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
He sailed and sailed to find this land for me and you.

That was my little speech way back in 1962 in a school play.

Memories & Postcards

Today is February 5th and it was my brother's birthday. I will never forget him and wanted to post about my memories. So I've linked to my last year's post to honor his memory. I was recently involved with 3 CaringBridge folks who touched my heart deeply. CaringBridge is a link that allows families to post daily journals about their ill loved ones. I was especially touched by a family whose 6 yrs. old who passed away from a terrible cancer. The little boy was here only for a brief time but he managed even in his illness, to reach out to others. He reminded me so much of my brother. I'm sure that there were times when the 6 yr. old was in pain, afraid and tired of all the procedures and needles but he never stopped fighting or trying to reassure his parents and other patients around him.
His parents and family are now going through the grieving process and my heart is right in there with them. Their son reminded me that I really have "nothing" to complain about or worry about in my good health.
I salute those brave child patients who, in their small mines, know what's important. Love! So, I'm passing what's important on to my fellow bloggers. Love one another, care for your fellow human being.

I have gotten behind in posting the postcards that I've received. So I'm doing some catch-up.
First, I received a great fur tree from Marie. Thank you, girlfriend. Marie & I have become great friends and try to encourage one another to get busy......LOL
Next up is a snazzy sparkly postcard from Vicki. She did some fancy thread work which doesn't show up & I know you can't see the sparkles but trust me they're there. I love sparkles. Thanks Vicki.
Finally, my good friend Carol did some paper-piecing to frame the cute angel kitty. Hope you doing well Carol. Thank you so much.
My postcard to all the group are on their way or already made it. Love you all and I'll try to do better with posting the pics.

Happy Birthday

Today is February 5th my brother's birthday. He died in 1989 the way he came into this world.....in my mother's arms. We were 18 months apart and always fighting as siblings do but if anyone else touched him.......big sister was there to the rescue. He was a fiesty little fellow who, from the tender age of 11 months old was discovered that he had Sickle Cell Anemia. That didn't stop him one bit even though around each Christmas holiday, he was quite ill and always in the hospital in Galveston, where the doctors there were great to him all those years ago (1960's) They did their best though little was known about his disease.
David was my hero because no matter how aweful he felt and it was pretty bad most of the time, he didn't want to let it get him down. He always encouraged his hospital mates to hang in there, to fight no matter what.
Mom and I often think and speak about him. David was comical, hard working...when he could work, loving and sometimes as mean as a snake.....lol......but I loved him with all of my heart.
Happy Birthday little brother.......... I miss you lots..........from your big sister.

;-}

Don't count the days, make the days count!
