To The Stash, I've Added

Look at the fantastic fabrics that I very recently added to my stash. I could not help myself.....do you hear me, I could not help myself. I purchased fat quarters because I only need to use small amounts in each project.

Most of the FQs are tree bark type fabrics with some pond scum, bricks and foliage thrown in. And I just had to get the barbed wire piece for my western collection. All in all, a great shopping day was had by me!!

Just In Time for the 4th Part 4

Above, we have several options for backgrounds.  Some work well, other.....the eagle gets lost or the background is too busy.  The variegated background is one of my favorites, so that's a possibility.  The night sky fabric is also a great background.  It pays to audition several fabrics and if you still can't choose, leave the project up on your design wall for a couple of days to think about it.  And, of course, you can always ask your blogging friends for advice.  They often have a wealth of knowledge with a long distance viewpoint.

I decided to go with a patriotic theme.  I chose several shades of reds and tone-on-tones and a wonderful blue starry fabric.  I cut strips of the chosen fabrics into varied widths just to make things interesting, then sewed them together.  Using our great "flag" as a guide for the correct stripes, I then added the starry corner.

Now to add the eagles......perfect. 

But now I'm thinking about just using one eagle!

News Flash!!!!!!!

Once you decide on your arrangement, iron the eagle into position.  You are almost home.

At this point, you could decide whether or not to stitch your design down.  Since this is a wall hanging and will not be used on a bed, you could choose not to stitch around your eagle.  The adhesive is very strong and can hold up to hand washing and the drip dry method.

My Quilt is "Singing The Blues"

This wonderful quilt was a challenge because..........can't you see it???...........If you know anything about me, you'll know what I'm talking about!!!........This quilt is............on the diagonal........Eeeeek!.........It took me a couple of months from start to finish...........I was supposed to trim the edges but I really like the way it looks now......I named the quilt "Singing The Blues" because I had to use quite a bit of blue fabrics (which I have a limited amount of), I had to read instructions (I don't like to) and keep the diagram right in front of me at all times (because it silly quilt in on the diagonal...Eeeeek).........which made this project complicatedly simply........did that make sense?

In The Meantime.......Flowery Florals

Taking a break from the "Band" quilt because all the students are on Spring Break, I decided to do a little cleaning and clears out of my stash..........when I found the above............oh dear!

This is one of those long term projects.....you know what I mean.....one that's been in a box for years...months.....you run across it, open it up.......oh yea, I remember that.....better start working on it.......again.............that's the one I'll refering to. Two of the bottom blocks you may recognize from the book I'm featuring on my sidebar ( Shadow Applique` ). I'm planning on making several more blocks..........more of the horizonal design.....I really don't have a specific size for the quilt which is kind of exciting. And I hope that I can make some headway towards finishing this baby before it finds it's way back into that box.

Fat Quarters

Nine fat quarters are just a drop in the bucket from my shopping spree. The Wackies took a little road trip the other day to a fabulous quilt shop in Waxahachie, Texas named "Common Threads." Of course there was a big sale on loads of fabrics. I did a little damage.....hehehehehehe The store is in an old building with great picture windows. The displays are well thought out and organized. If you are into Civil War fabrics, this is the store for you. The ladies are friendly and very helpful. It's just a great atmosphere. Ssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I'm sewing up a storm making 4 little aprons for some cute kids. Will show and tell soon so stay tuned!

Maybe....I Don't

Maybe....I don't need to buy anymore fat quarters for a long time. Recently, I was looking for one of my favorite quilting magazines when I ran across several bags. I decided to open them....and what do you think I found....................fat quarters! Lots and lots of FQ's.......so many that I jammed them in with the rest of my stash so that no one would notice. What am I saying.....I live alone...thank goodness. LOL Okay, so that I wouldn't notice....hhhhheeeeee

I've decided that maybe I'd better use these up before I buy more. What do you think? Let me hear from you.
