Thes star was made from 5.5 half square triangles & what I call solid squares. It measures 40" & was machine quilted.

Milkshake and Half-sisters

Here's Milkshake with two of her half-sisters. Aren't they cute??  I know you can't see it because of their coloring and my poor camera skills but all three calves have that Nike mark over the eye. I was shocked and laughed so hard when I saw the marks that I nearly fell out of the back of the truck. As you can see one of the little ones was coming over to see what's so funny.

 

And I couldn't post without showing you what BB (Buzzard Bait) is up to. She's the off white one who now weighs around 400 pounds. She's waiting patiently for me to open the gate so that she can be the first to get to the range cubes. She loves those "cookies" for sure. She hasn't seen her little sisters yet but one of these days she just might go for a visit.

 I forgot to mention in my Starburst post the other day that anyone who wishes to make a starburst from my design is free to do so. I don't remember from time to time how many half squares there are (around 36 I think) that's why I always keep the design in front of me....LOL.....also, the little chart above is one I found years ago, I think it's from Eleanor  Burns, but it's saved me from figuring so much when making half squares. Sorry about the slanted photo.

 

 

 

 

Round One

Well, I finally finished round one of this little quilt (approx. 29" X 29").  If you remember, I've been experimenting with fabrics and finally settled on the scrappy look.  I just happened to have some scraps lying around and dug right in.  After making several groups of half square triangles, I couldn't help myself.....I started a couple of rows just to make sure that I'd like this design.

I like to take pictures during the process and review them as I go along.....this really helps to see any mistakes but, alas, there are times when you still don't see what's wrong.
I decided to make this quilt small because I really like the looks of the smaller quilts. In this way, you can hang more around the house, drape them over the sofa, use them as table runners and whatever else you can think of.
The blocks are 2 1/2" squares and HS.  I did try to not look at each one as I sewed them together.  There are a few of the same one together but you really can't tell.  I'm happy the way things turned out.
The next round is going to be a dark stopping strip followed by a little surprise...so stay tuned.

Beltbuckles Anyone?

My good blogging buddy, Gene (make sure you pop over to his blog and check things out) was experimenting with his EQ6 and designed a wonderful quilt, which he said reminded him of beltbuckles.  I asked his permission to try out the design and just got started.

The design called for 70 some odd half squares so I decided to  make the "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha"McCloskey's method which are on the bias.  It works so well, let me tell you. And what with using my new Shark iron with power steam, the fabric ironed like melted butter.

Of course I couldn't wait so I placed a row on my small design board and I really like what I see. I chose swirlly orange fabric (Marble Textures by Moda Classics) with lots of movement, a butter yellow and the black print fabric (Jo Morton for Andover Fabrics) is my favorite.

Scrappy Star Burst

This quilt is a quick way to get rid of some of your stash, practice making half square triangles and turn out a great looking quilt with little fuss!
I drafted this, believe it or not, a few years ago and have made it several times as quick gifts of tables and throws.  Using the quick method of making half squares and using a package of nickel squares or fabric from your stash, this quilt can be made in a day or two.
Each block is this quilt measures 3 inches.
Note the "Halving It" diagram to make 8 half square triangles in a jiffy!
