Monday, Monday

Judy at Patchworktimes, is a fantastic hostess. Each Monday she allows any quilter who wishes to participate, to show off his/her work or home projects. Sometimes I forget to just say thank you to her and that I really appreciate the space she allows us to share with one another.
Make sure you pop over so that you can see what others are up to on the wonderful Design Wall Monday!!

Another finish for me!!
I started this hand embroidery quilt when my mom had heart surgery about 2 years ago. The work kept me sane while she recovered after being released. That was a hair-raising experience but the doctors are excellent and she is now doing very well for the age of 80.
Anyway, the other day I ran across the quilt top, decided to add a border and quilted it with black thread. I'll be donating it to my helping hands group next week. Maybe some child will become inspired and study Insects in Science or something.
And, hey, no teasing me about making this quilt when I'm so not into anything that flies, flutters, slithers, hops, crawls, meanders.......well you get the picture.....LOL!!

Monday, Monday

This is what I've been working on & finally finished.
Make sure to pop over to Judy's to see what everyone else is up to.
This quilt is a hodge-podge if UFO blocks & 2 1/2 inch squares. I add the bottom row made of vines, leaves and a few flowers.  I love the way this all came together. I'll be donating it to the helping hands group as a raffle quilt or sorts.
I'm not quite back to life but I'm getting there.
Hope everyone has a great week.

Just Add Petals

After sew some charm squares together, I discovered how lifeless they looked so I added a folk-art flower to liven things up. This is a subtlety charming little quilt that I am now liking a lot!!it's going in my helping hands pile.

Quick & Easy

Sorry about the off kilter photo, my bad!!
This quilt top allowed me to use up a pack of charm squares.  From design layout to stitching it all together took about 2 hours. It doesn't get any better than that.
This is also going to my helping hands group.
If you are wondering about what I talking about......this year I decided to make and donate lap quilts to my local helping hands group. These ladies get together each Wednesday to sew all day on lap quilts which they donate to nursing homes, women's centers, hospice and hospitals.
Since I can't meet with them, I work on the quilts at home and take them in towards the end of each month. Some I machine quilt, others are dealt with by the wonderful ladies.
This endeavor has allowed me to get rid of clean out my enormous stash.
For once the scraps haven't been able to multiply....LOL
So far I've been able to donate 30 quilts and or tops.
Since these are lap sized, it's easy to whip them out quickly for the most part. Machine quilting takes about 2 hours per quilt not counting the time it takes to secure the backing and batting to the top.

with the hairspray which is quick and doesn't mess up the machine at all. Thank you Gene, again for that tip.

Monday, Monday

I've had the Japanese fabric for years. I bought it in Dallas at the quilt show. Funny how I remember that. Finally, I found a use for it in this Spinning Star quilt. It's one of my favorite designs. Once it's quilted, it will be going to the helping hands ladies.
I'm doing most of the machine quilting which gives me extra practice meandering.
Make sure to pop over to Judy's to see what others are up to.

Gone Fishing

Gone Fishing is the latest helping hands quilt. As you can see I've even gotten it quilted. Now to bind it but that will have to wait until another day.

Monday, Monday

Here's my latest helping hands quilt. Some may recognize the design, "Fractured Diamond" which comes out square but I needed it to be rectangular. I'd run out of fabric.....what to do, what to do??
Ah, something came to mind as I was sleeping. I added Warm & Cozy to the top. So now I thinking that when I make more helping hands tops that are square, Warm & Cozy will make them the right size for sharing..........whew!
Be sure to pop over to Judy's to see what everyone else is up to.

Another Star

Thes star was made from 5.5 half square triangles & what I call solid squares. It measures 40" & was machine quilted.

Starburst

It started with doodling and thinking about all the half-square triangles in my stash of UFOs.
I've had this doodle for years and have used it many times so why not for one of my helping hands projects.
The squares I'm using measure 4 1/2 inches but as we all know you can make your half-squares and solid squares any size you require.

I love this design but it needed something.....
a border, of course.

I've had the blue floral fabric for a couple of years at least and this past summer I had cut it into long 7 1/2 inch strips so that the design could show. It has hung in my sewing room since.
What a wonderful way to use it.
This whole quilt top took two days to make. Had I not had to cook, eat, do laundry and other housework, surely I could have finished in a day.................LOL
This quilt measures 45 inches square and is going to the
helping hands group.

Monday, Monday

As you can see, I'm making the most of my "cowboy" fabrics.
These quilt tops will go to the helping hands ladies in my community who quilt them to be given to nursing homes clients, needy children & other groups.

Well, well, "Empty Diamonds" is finished & I'm so pleased with this one. Someone will want to snag it right up quickly!!
Making small quilt tops is a lot of fun. Can you see me smiling real big??

This last quilt idea came from the rabbit fabric. I only had about a half yard left so I made the rabbit and daisy blocks. I also used a burnt orange fabric to bring brightness to the quilt.

So, I'm plugging along with quilt tops and new ideas..... all the fabrics used come from my stash which has not diminished one little bit and of course, now I have more strips to works with.............sigh!!
BTW, if you've noticed that some or most of the photos are askew, it's because I've been take them with my cell phone and can never seem to get directly over the top of the tops. You'd think I'd just go and get my regular camera but.....oh no, I'm determined to figure that cell phone app out.....
Make sure to pop over to Judy's sometime today, to see what others are up to!!

Empty Diamonds

This is my latest project, which I've named "Empty Diamonds."
I saw a design similar to it but can't remember where. I always want to give credit to the person!!
I am using gray background fabrics which measure 6 1/2 by 11 1/2. If you are wondering why that measurement , because I have a ruler that size & it's so much easier to just go
 with that.....laugh out loud!
I'll need to stitch everything down and then together. And of course there's the border to consider....oh my!!
This will probably go in my helping hands stack.
If you are looking for Mug Rug Thursday....remember I'm doing that every two weeks this year.

Monday, Monday

Two new quilts for my community helping hands. All fabrics from my stash. I've decided to do quilts from each theme of fabrics so "cowboy" is the theme for now until I get tired of making tops from those.........laugh out loud!

;-}

Don't count the days, make the days count!
