We Have A Winner

Greetings Everyone!!
So sorry it's taken me so long to post the name of the FQ winner. What with Mother's Day celebrations and church services, I've been really busy. But Mr. Cowboy did remind me that "he" needed to draw a name from the hat. WOW, can you believe that he reminded me. I think he secretly likes his job....LOL
Without further delay.....the winner is........

SWOOZE! Congrats girlfriend.  Mr. Cowboy didn't understand the name, so I explained to him that it's your blog handle.......like mine is Ravelly..........he went away shaking his head.

How I Spent My Tuesday; A Winner & Another Give Away

Mr. Cowboy decided he needed some blades for cutting hay. He ask if I wanted to tag along. Not thinking clearly, I said, "Sure, why not." Several hours later...& several stops later...sigh. Of course I forgot my Kindle and any hand work I could have done but Mr. Cowboy kept me in stitches so all was not lost.

Next, I went with Mr. Cowboy's suggestion to add the tree. He loves trees & he was so excited to help.
Now for the most exciting part, Mr. Cowboy pulled the name for the FQ..& the winner is  A Left-handed Quilter. Congratulations to you.
If you've made it this far on this post, I'm giving away another FQ, you can see it below. Isn't it pretty? All you need to do is leave a comment to participate. Good luck!!

Another FQ give away!!!!

And The Winner Is

Hi everyone. Well, I complained about the 28 degree weather here in central-ish Texas the other day and wouldn't you know it....all I had to do was wait a few days. We're back up to 70 degrees (Shout-ie  voice here)!!! OMG! Now I'm sweating profusely but I think I'll still purchase that coat just in case.

Okay, so Mr. Cowboy pulled a name from the old cowboy hat finally. The winner is desertskyquilts.
Congratulations to you. You know the drill. Leave a comment and I'll talk with you via email soon.
Next, I'll be a bit sporadic blogging for the rest of December as I'm sure we all will. The holidays can get a bit hectic at best. So, if you don't hear from me for awhile, Merry Christmas.....Happy New Year!!!!!

Celebration At Last!

Bells are going off!
Confetti is floating in the air!
Hooray!!!! Post 1600 is finely here!!!!
I'm doing a happy dance right now and Mr. Cowboy is laughing his cowboy hat off watching me.
If you have stuck with me this long, you have definitely gone on a wild journey. Thanks for hanging around.
Now, let me give you an update on my venture into making quilts for the Veterans at my Senior Community Center. I have eight quilt tops made, four are already quilted so I've been on my knees getting the others sandwiched and ready to quilt.
My goal is to have them ready by November 1st. I can do it because these are small quilts. Just a token of my appreciation for the service of some wonderful men and women.
This particular quilt top I've had for many years with no real idea of what to do next but it's a great one to give to a Veteran. The photo is fuzzy for some reason....must be camera error!!!
This quilt I made last year and it's quilted as well. It's from my Fractured Star design. I added the white stars to give it a different look.
The winner of the final FQ is Joyce Carter whose favorite color is RED!!!!! Mr. Cowboy sends his congratulations because he was getting a bit worn out from pulling names from the old cowboy hat each week......LOL.  It's been so much fun doing these quilts for the Veterans and I thank each and everyone for participating and lending your suggestions.
I'll have photos in November of the festivities for the Veterans.
I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!!

Celebration Part 6

Warning, this post is photo heavy!!!
I've chosen a close up of an eagle.

I enlarged it & outlined the parts I want to really stand out. Next I'll choose some fabrics to make the magic happen.

These are just some of the fabrics that will be used in this endeavor.

The eyes are looking good.

I've gotten the beak in place & need to stitch around the parts before I can stitch everything together.

Here's a close-up of the eagle's face. I've used crayons & markers to highlite the feathers & will use threads to further add to the coloring when I quilt the piece.

Little Firecracker is all kicked back playing some sort of video game. I don't know how her parents got her to sit still for any period of time!
Oh, I nearly forgot about the winner of the fat quarter. It's Vicki H. Congratulations to you. Her favorite color is orange.
Please leave a comment to participate in the give-away. I do believe that the next post will be #1600. Oh boy I can't wait!!!

Celebrate Countdown Part 3

Slept on what to do with this eagle. I added a light brown border then found some patriotic fabric in my stash to dress up the block. So far so good!!
However, my mind has gone in yet another direction. So that eagle is tabled for the moment.

Here's the eagle I'm working on now.
The star design is one that I've use many times and is perfect for what I have in mind. I've use several shades of greens and golds on my HST and tone-on-tones.
I really like this eagle with its beak open. I've used permanent markers and crayons to highlight feathers and the bold brow on the eagle.
Here's the finished top measuring 54 inches square.
Next......
Magpie's Mumblings is the winner of the second FQ!! Congratulations to you. Blue and purple are her colors for now, so I'll be sending out the color BLUE to her as soon as we talk via email. I don't have much purple in my stash, if you can believe that.
Remember to leave a comment and mention your favorite color to participate in the give away. If you've already won a FQ, you can still win again.

Here's another pic of the little firecracker!!
Have a great weekend everyone.

A Winner & Oh my gosh!

I had some time on my hands and for some unknown reason I was drawn to my sewing room, decided to do some cleaning and refolding. But things got out of hand. I started pulling out drawers of fabric. I got a wild hair to organize things "again" and now the room looks like someone threw a fit in there.
I have piles of fabric everywhere.  Mr. Cowboy took one look at the room and tried to back out of the house before I caught him for the drawing.....hehehehehehehe

Carol over at Carol-Beads & Birds is the winner of the FQ. Sorry it took so long for Mr. Cowboy to draw a name from the hat.  Hay season is in full swing here.    Congratulations to Carol!!! Leave a comment and tell me your favorite color and I'm contact you via email later for more info.

Roll Foot & a Winner

Greetings everyone!! Before I pop off to church here's wishing all those dads out there
"Happy Father's Day" and many more. My dad passed away many years ago but his teachings have aided me many times over.
Now onto the next foot.  You are looking at the roll hem foot from my Pfaff & Janome machines. They are very similar. Of course I have never used either because I'm not a seamstress, although my mom wishes I were!! She keeps asking me to alter this and that or make some curtains for windows.......OMG mom, I'm not a s-e-a-m-s-t-r-e-s-s!!!!!  Ok, that's off my chest. Mr. Cowboy finally came out of the hay fields to draw a name from the "hat." The winner is GeneCongratulations to Gene. Just email me your favorite color and I'll get your FQ mailed off very soon.
To everyone who leaves a comment, you'll be placed in the hat for the next drawing.  Wait until you see the next strange foot I'll be featuring soon. Until then may you have love, peace and joy in your life!!

Jun 6, 2017

Next Foot & A Winner

These two, as you can see are from my two favorite machines. I don't use the Pfaff one very often now because I'm on the Janome most of the time when sewing fever strikes me. I use the darning foot or embroidery foot to free motion quilt some of my mini quilts. I'm just learning to stitch around the raw edges with it. It's frightening because I really have to pay attention to what I doing....LOL.
Remember, if you leave a comment, you are in the hat for a FQ. The color will be your choice.
Mr. Cowboy popped in from the hay fields for a quick tuna sandwich so I had him to draw from the "hat" for another FQ winner.
Joyce Carter, you are a winner! Congratulations!!!!!! Just email me your mailing addy along with your favorite color and I'll get that in the mail very soon.

Do not get excited!!!! I repeat, do not get excited.
I am still not back in my sewing room but I did stumble upon this top that I hadn't taken a photo of.
Some of you may remember this quilt from a month or so ago. At that time I was really trying to get rid of some of my bag of scraps but, alas, that bag just seemed to grow. You know how that is, right?
This top measures 67" by 83"
The piano Key border took as long to assemble as the Fractured Diamond part but I'm happy the way it turned out.
I always feel guilty when I'm unable to respond to your comment, if you are a Non-responder but please know that I am always happy you all visit.

FQ Winner & a Bug Welcome Back

Mr. Cowboy thought I was being silly about not getting to sew until I mentioned what if he was kept from all his farm stuff....hehehe!
He, then was very happy to quiet me down by drawing a FQ winner.
Regina, he drew your name! Congratulations girl!!! Just email me your mailing addy, your favorite color & I'll get your FQ in the mail.
This was so much fun so I'll be giving away more FQs with each post about machine feet.
So here's the next foot that's another favorite.
It's my Open-toed foot that I've used in many of the mini quilts that I stitch around the raw edges. You can see why it's named Open-toe. I shift my needle all the over to the right & decrease the stitch length to achieve the close stitching.
Leave a comment to be counted for the next FQ give away!!

I want your help in welcoming back to blogging my wacky girlfriend Molly.  When you've got a moment, pop over to her blog and sit a spell!!

Grandma, The Early Years - A True Story

Scampering up the trunk and branches of a China Berry tree to the roof of the house, "They're gone," Hertha (my grandma) shouted to her brothers and sisters as her parents rode out of sight in their wagon. Hertha jumped from the roof and ran to the chicken coop where her mom's setting hens were scratching around for corn kernels. Kenchion grabbed the axe while Clark (Stewie), Hertha and Rosa moved slowly towards an unfortunate hen.

In a cloud of dust plus a few scratches Stewie managed to grab the hen, placed her on the stump.... Poppa Abe used as a chopping block, and Kenchion swung the axe.

Quickly, the girls poured hot water over the body and began to pluck the feathers, loading said feathers into a bucket to be buried somewhere in the field. The job was messy and the smell of wet chicken feathers lingered in the air.

The hen was plucked, washed and cut up, Rosa began to melt the lard, season and flour the bird parts to be fried while Hertha (my grandma) got a big bowl down from the cupboard to bake a cake. Grandma had seen her mom make cakes on many occasions so she figured it would be easy. While the boys held the bowl Hertha (my grandma) began to add flour, eggs, salt, milk and a little too much sugar. "You put too much in, Hertha," Kenchion whined as his arms began to shake from the efforts of holding the bowl. Hertha shooed him to silence and carefully poured the too stiff mix into the cake pan.

Annie B. looked on in disapproval not liking the fact that she was too small to help. She couldn't understand why nobody would let her help and boldly stated that she was going to tell. Not a wise decision on her part as the other siblings turned to glare at her. Threats of being locked in the chicken coop or out in the barn with the horse and even worse locked in the outhouse convinced Annie B. that telling was not a good idea at all.

Rosa's chicken was frying up nicely while Hertha's cake smelled sweetly from the oven. Everyone's mouth began to water as the table was quickly set for the meal.

The kids all gathered around the table with Stewie heading the table. The chicken was tasty but the cake was way too sweet but no one complained, not even Annie B.

Bones, lard and any remains of the meal were fed to the hogs, slopping as it's known here in Texas. The kitchen was aired out and Annie B. was warned to keep her mouth shut once more as Poppa Abe and Great-grandma Dollie rounded the corner for home.

The next morning Great-grandma Dollie (Hertha's mom and my great-grandma)  was out in the coop rounding up eggs when she missed one of her setting hens. Puzzled, she asked the children about the hen's whereabouts...... with blank looks......no one knew anything, not even Annie B.

My grandma....

My grandma....

My grandma.......look at that innocent face...who would have guessed that in her youth the mischief she and her siblings got into.

If you've made it this far, you are in for a great give-away.
The other day I was looking through my UFOs and came across this rooster and nine chickens from my "Yard Birds" design.
I'd already made a couple of quilts from my pattern so I don't remember what or why I had prepared these. They are only glued down with my favorite adhesive....Steam-a-Seam so all that's needed is for them to be sewn down.
Now, here's what's required to win them......you "must" be a FOLLOWER of my blog or become a FOLLOWER of my blog. That's it.
Leave only 1 comment to say what you thought of grandma's colorful adventure in the kitchen & also in that same comment mention that you are a FOLLOWER or that you have just become a FOLLOWER.
I usually don't require that you follow when doing a give away but this is a special post for me.
I'll announce a winner at the end of the week.

One more thing.................

And finally, I've had to do another random pick for the "Kitty Cat" mug rug due to a non-comment, which means I had no way to notify the winner.
Here's the new winner
Guilitta!
Congratulations to you. Just leave a comment so that we can get together via email.

Flags on a Stick Winner

Hi everyone! Wow, for those of us who participated in the Flags on a Stick blog hop, what a fun time. There are a lot of wonderfully creative bloggers out there. If you missed viewing all the flags, you need to pop over to SewWeQuilt and scan to fine all the great links.

My handsome cowboy was honored to draw a name from his cowboy hat. He always gets a little smile on his face when I ask him for advice on colors or a design or drawing a name. He can't hardly really grasp how we all connect and draw strength, friendship, ideas and prayers from when needed from one another but he's happy that I've found friends in blogging.
Okay now for the winner........................
