Boots, Vines and Broderie Perse & a Finish!

Boot block #9. This is the final block in this Block of the Week series although I stretched things out in two week intervals for a couple of weeks to make things easier for all.
This pair of boots are what I think of as more girly. Not because of the flowers added but because of the swirls and the tilt of one boot into the other.

Hand embroidered vines to add blossoms next.
After this block is all sewn down, I'll be putting all nine block together. Each block in my quilt measure 6 1/2 inches unfinished.
I had some borders in mind but changed my mind several times before all was said and done.

Here's the finished quilt which measures 21" square. I meandered around the boots and vines in a tight stipple so that each boot stands out.
I look forward to hearing from those who sewed along with me.

Gray & Yellow Go Together

Finally, a big quilt finish in 2016!
I use the Yellow Brick Road pattern for the most part, added piano keys as one of the borders & actually quilted it myself with an all over swirls & loops design.
The quilt measures 78" by 84" & is slotted to go to my local high school alumni for auction this summer. Whew!!

Sneak Peek Revealed

This past November I posted about a project that is due in February. I mentioned a Hereford Bull we named Curly. Above is the finished top measuring 72" by 98."
As always, I had a blast making each block. I decided to title it "Way Back Then" because most of the blocks depicted, my mom told me about. This is from my family's history. Below are close-ups of the blocks.

Now to get it quilted in a timely manner......sigh.....cross your fingers everyone!!!

Just Before Thanksgiving

Hi everyone!
This is a busy time around my house.....getting ready for Thanksgiving......all that cooking.....you know how it is.
I did manage to get some sewing in. I sewed two borders on this beauty. I love it. The final measurement is 70 inches square.
Then, last week I quilted my hand embroidered ABC quilt at a great place I mentions some posts back, "Seldom Seen Quilting Studio" in Waxahachie, Texas. Diana, the owner, is always on hand to help and give suggestions.

Here's a close up. Now to get the binding on......maybe after Thanksgiving........giggles!!!

Piano Keys and Done

I finally got around to bordering my string quilt top. Piano keys look cool but are time consuming. Let me just say, "whew!"
Annie (no blog) and I visited the quilting place I mentioned a few blogs ago..."seldom seen".....& I was able to quilt in a day my green fractured diamond quilt. I am very pleased with my meandering. I'm so happy we found that place!!

Another 2014 Finish

Sometime back in January I started this table runner. I've finally gotten it stitched down, quilted & bound. It measures 9 1/2 by 30"
Here's a close up of some of the machine quilting.

Another Finish

The teacher's aide in Ayden's class loves the red/black combo so I whipped out this 20" square number. I used my favorite "kite" shape as a template which makes the wonderful fractured diamond design. From start to finish, this quilt took around 8 to 10 hours. If I hadn't had to stop for nourishment it might have taken a short period of time.....LOL
Two Christmas presents are now crossed off my list!!

A Roaring Finish

Here's my finish. I decided to do an orange & white border.
If you enlarge the photo you can see some of the quilting directions. Of course I used Steam-a-Seam & then quilted crazily over everything.....laugh out loud!

Monday, Monday

I finished the borders and machined "The Duke" last week. Some of you aided me by voting on your favorite setting, 1 or 2. I went with #2 because it was the last one laid out and I just didn't have time to rearrange it back to #1....who has been in that situation...I was just too lazy tired to rearrange.  The last border was done from the leftover strips and last bigger pieces from the kite fabric, which, BTW, is one of my all time favorite fabrics. Why I didn't purchase several bolts of that fabric, I just don't know (LOL).
The quilt measures 36 inches square and will be given to my help hands ladies.  I was determined to get this one finished even though I was canning and baling hay, (Oh, I'm the helper in the hay baling process but it's still takes up a lot of my time).  If it doesn't rain again any time soon, we'll just do a couple more weeks of baling. I can't believe I'm hoping for no more rain in the near future. It's been unseasonably rainy and wet here in central Texas......don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining one bit.
I've scheduled this post to appear on Monday and I hope it works. It's Friday now and I'm off to do more canning and mow the yard plus a few more chores that have to get done.
Make sure to stop by our wonderful hostess, Judy to see what other are doing in the great month of JULY!!
Near our hay fields some of the cows were grazing. We rode over to give them some cookies (range cubes) and I spotted this little heifer, a tiger stripe. She stands out in the crowd with her coloring and boy, can she run.

Another Finish

This 36 inch square quilt was made from my scraps the other day & quilted in a couple of hours. It's going to my helping hands group later today along with the Insect quilt.
BTW,
I'll be announcing a winner from "my big give away" on Friday, the 20th.
Here's some of what's in the BOX.....
It's stuffed in there pretty tight & waiting for a new home! If you're a FOLLOWER and you haven't signed up for a chance to win, there's still time. Just leave a comment HERE for all the information and to be counted.

Monday, Monday

This is what I've been working on & finally finished.
Make sure to pop over to Judy's to see what everyone else is up to.
This quilt is a hodge-podge if UFO blocks & 2 1/2 inch squares. I add the bottom row made of vines, leaves and a few flowers.  I love the way this all came together. I'll be donating it to the helping hands group as a raffle quilt or sorts.
I'm not quite back to life but I'm getting there.
Hope everyone has a great week.

Motivated

I am motivated to "clear" out my UFO boxes. There's just too many things that I've not finished or forgotten about. So this year I'm bound and determined to either make a dent or totally finish putting together those projects.  Of course whatever fabrics I was supposed to use have been used in other quilts and I'm not buying any more fabric until I get said UFOs done.....so it's off to the old stash for everything.......LOL
The first quilt above came from strips that I had sewn into tubes a couple of years ago and never got back to. It was easy to unsew each tube to sew into a staggered design.  I added the green fabric because I liked the way it looks with the black/white/red. That was going well but when I laid it out and stood back, it needed something...what? I didn't know and went to bed. As we all know, sleep lends great ideas.......I added an ABC font and now it's complete and I love it. I'm donating a lot of my UFO tops to a local helping hands group and this little quilt will make some child smile.
The next quilt top you've seen a couple of times before. I've just added another border from my stash and will possibly do another design around that......this will take some thinking on my part which not amount of sleep will help..... so cross your fingers....hehehehe

January First

The pinwheel blocks have been in my UFO box for "years" and I've looked at them every once and awhile but yesterday I decided to do something with them. I pulled two fabrics to add to the mix and here's the results.
This quilt top measures 52 by 62 and will be a donation quilt top to a great bunch of ladies who help the elderly.

A is for Aardvark - BOW - "X"

First, can I get a whoop, whoop for the finish of my barn quilt. I did a one inch dark brown stop border and a five inch sand colored border with....what else.......
fences around the corners.
The final measurement is 49" by 53".
I know it's a strange measurement but the blocks were 11" by 13 1/2".
Love it!! What are your thoughts??

Now onto the Letter X.....

DWM

To see what others are up to, pop over to
 Judy's
for a closer look.

I learned about this wonderful project from this LINK.
With the various situations, tragedies and worries that have occurred lately, Sandra and Sandi came up with this small heart warming project.

I chose a heart design. I wanted it to be vivid. The rest of the design was to be in shades of gray so that the piece would standout.

I used fabrics from my stash. Robert Kaufman's Fusions; Windham Fabrics-Civil War by Nancy Gene and other scraps.

I wanted the wording to fade from darkness to light.
"From Tragedy to Hope"
was what I chose. "Hope" is done in two shades of yellow.

Sprinkling the monochromatic gray, black and white flowers added to the piece.

Now I'll need to sandwich everything then quilt it. The finished piece should
 measure 12 inches square.

All done!

;-}

Don't count the days, make the days count!
