Design Wall Monday & Dress Up Your Roll

It's Design Wall Monday again. Here are my next installments for my calendar quilt.
The first October block was not to my liking. I machined embroidered the spider's web but things just didn't go well. The fabric I chose for the lettering was too busy and the overall presentation was off.
I really like the black cat on the fence so that 's the one I'll use in the quilt. I used more of my fence rail fabric and a little bit of a batik hand dyed fabric for the pumpkins. I hand embroidered a couple of curly vines to each pumpkin.
Remember to pop over to Judy's to see what everyone else is doing!

I decided to make another toilet roll cover. I tried my hand with an half and half theme.... thus the night and day scene.
Jane is hosting this great challenge. Pop over to learn more.

Dress Up Your Roll

Quiltjane is hosting a great competition which I've linked to. We are to design a toilet paper cover and share it on the Flickr group. Barb has already gotten one done and has a great tutorial on how to.
The following is my effort and tutorial.

The circle is 5 1/2 inches across the middle.
I used one of my wonderful fence fabrics along with a couple of textured fabrics. I wanted to tree to lay over the top of the roll so I partially  ironed it to the side.
Once the top circle was sewn on using DMC floss for extra strength, I ironed the tree over the top.

I love it!

State Fair Results

Remember my "Patriotic Me" quilt that I entered in our state fair?????  Well, it won Second Place in its division of Applique, pieced, machine quilting.  I was so surprised and happy to place.
Words of encouragement......."Get out there, enter contest, participate and by doing so you will stretch your imagination, step out of your box or comfort zone, meet new and wonderful people and you just might place.  But even if you don't,  the experience will boost your confidence!
If you live in the Dallas area and get to the fair, make sure to visit all the wonderful displays.

State Fair of Texas

Here I am delivering my "Patriotic Me" quilt to our state's fair.  I've been to the state fair many times and always marveled at the beautiful quilts on display.  While surfing the net the other week, I ran across an article on participating in the fair's many events (cooking, canning, wood work, quilting, etc.). I decided to give it a try.  This is a juried event and ribbons are involved.  Wish me luck.

Contest

Alrighty then......I know that one picture is sideways........of course I know that......I tried to turn it the right way........to no avail.

Anywhooooo, this is the Apron that I made using the Piece O' Cake instructions from Becky & Linda. They wanted the participants to use the floral design in our own interpretation. So as you can see, I made the apron with a floral pocket and the curly vine to spruce up the bottom. I didn't place but it was fun just trying.

More Teasing

The Group Picture:Most of the ladies were there to receive their certificates and tote bags. This is the ceremonial picture for preservation. Terri Vogue, of the Dallas area, chose the layout of the quilt, the Attic Window design and sewed the block together. The quilting was done by someone whose name escapes me. But I will find out and get back to you.
The Three Amigos: Kathy, Jerri and me.

Teaser

I named this post teaser because it will be impossible to post all 104 pictures that I took yesterday.....So, allow me to whet your appetites with a few today. Huuummmmmm.....is this the right place? The Wackies have a habit of finding places in a round about way. Well there's my name, so this must be the correct place. Jerri decided to take a peer to see what the quilt looked like but the tape prevented it. Me with Ms. York who is the coordinator of the contest, receiving my certificate. This's the quilt. Sorry about the slanted view. There was no way to get a clear picture because of all the people gathered around it. Not to worry, I came back later and will show close-ups.

Going To The Fair

Tomorrow I'm off to the Dallas fairgrounds along with most of my "wacky" friends to view the unveiling of the Go Texan "Toast a Rising Star" quilt. As I mentioned in an earlier post, 24 blocks were chosen, were sent off to be sewn together and quilted and will be traveling around the state and shown at various shows, festivals and community events. I take plenty of pictures and share ASAP.

The Wackies will be there, of course. If any of my blogger friends are in the area, please come out and enjoy the fun. The link highlighted gives a little info about who and what took place. And below are two of my "wacky" friends whose blocks also made it into the Go Texan quilt. Jerri's block Kathy's block

Contest Results

http://www.fonsandporter.com If you go to the site above, click on "Events"; then click on "Contest"; finally click on "Done in One", you will see the results of the "Done in One" contest. The quilts are so cute. I entered 2 small quilts (Things Cowboy and Star of Hope) and was very happy to even be considered.
