First photo in progress

It's Design Wall Monday with Judy and I've already started a new project......why??? you ask. I don't know, call me crazy.  Anyway, I'm calling this one "Nearing Autumn" because I'm so ready for cooler weather.
This will be a table runner. I love building the layers of fabric, digging through my stash, making a mess.......LOL

Happy Labor Day!

Judy's hosting Design Wall Monday
so make sure to see what others are doing.

Wow, I can't believe it's September already. If I were still teaching, this would be our first holiday and my first time to sew all day. So in keeping with that thought (BTW, I'm so happy to be retired for about 6 years now) I did get to do some stuff yesterday after my misadventure with Buzzard Bait, my company and my Kiwi Pie (see yesterday's post for that).
I was digging through a pile of fabric when I ran across some blocks of machine embroidery. Oh boy, I thought, when in the world did I do those? I couldn't remember but went off to my sewing room to trim off the excess so I could see what I might do next.

Each block took about 30 minutes from prep to stitching out. It was obvious that I didn't know what I was doing at the time because I chose the wrong threads. You can't see it but in the black and white area around each quarter circles there is stitching. I should have used a color that could be seen like lime green or red. If I ever do this again that's the route I'll take.
I might make pillows but at the moment nothing is coming to me.
Any thoughts?

Another pink project. This is a "Fractured Star" design that I've made many times. This is the last of the pink floral fabric. I'm thinking of doing a stop border in black and then use the last of the solid pink but I'm not sure yet. Will have to look at it for awhile.
See what others are doing at JUDY's on this Design Wall Monday.

DWM-Swan

First, I have a winner from my
 Ho Ho Ho Blog Hop
Congratulations Leslie!! Just leave a comment and we'll get
 together via email.

It's Design Wall Monday and our hostess, Judy, has a list of everyone who have allowed their creative juices to flow. Make sure to pop over and see what others are doing!!

I know you're thinking "pink" and Rhonda together, again no less. It's amazing to me as well but I love this floral pink.  The design I used this time is "Endless Stars" by Jean M. Potetz. So far it measures 45 1/2 inches square. I'm planning on adding a 1 1/2 inch gray border and then I'll have to think about the next one.

Finally........
Here's the swan from my pond scene in two parts because it was too big to fit on my printer flatbed. All you'll need to do is tape the parts together.

Pink...is the color I worked with Sunday.  I love the floral pink that you probably can really see. I added a couple of grays, a pretty black pattern along with a few others. The quilt measures 48 inches square. From start to finish, pressing, cutting stitching and border about 7 hours. I had to stop to eat dinner.......LOL

Final installment #9 of my Gone Fishin series.
This is another catfish better known as bottom feeders.
I hope that you have enjoyed this little journey.
I'd love to see your "Gone Fishin" quilts.

Here's an interesting fabric that works well as water in a lake.
Make sure you pop over to Judy's to see what's up with everyone!!

#8 (Mudpuppy) better known as catfish is next in my Gone Fishin series.
Enjoy!!

Here's a view of the bottom dwelling catfish.

Look at what's made a second appearance this summer.....
Grandma's day lilies!!
My grandma planted the bulbs back in the late 1940s. Isn't that amazing that they still bloom each year!!

The heat and dry weather wilted the first round but cool rainy weather has had a great effect on this round.

Reminder!!

There's still plenty of time to get in on the THURSDAY mug rug give-away.
This strutting rooster is up for grabs.
Just click
and leave a comment to be counted. I'll announce the winner August 2nd.
I know, I know
this will be a day later
 but
 I'll be posting the

Before I get to the fist BOW
here's what I was working on yesterday. I hope to finish it today.
"I Need A Cool Drink, Too" Mug Rug

#7 for Gone Fishin is here. This is a great one to use pieces of dad's old shirts.

Here's a different look. Use Attic Window blocks as a quilt idea. I've just used two scenes to show but this has many possibilities. Each fish block could show off different settings.

Make sure to pop over to Judy's to see what others are up to.

#6 of Gone Fishin is here.
My favorite fabric is the underbelly geometric scrap. I only had a little bit of it so I don't
know the designer.

Next, another finish. You remember this little quilt "In These Shoes"
Well I was very busy sewing and binding all weekend.
I used Gene's method of basting: hairspray!!
It worked like a charm. Thank you Gene for that fantastic suggestion. It worked like a charm!

Here are a few close-ups. I did tiny meandering throughout the quilt.

I bound the quilt in black.

Judy is our hostess for DWM so pop over and say Howdy!!

Eeeeek!
I snapped a photo of this spider's web on my way to my mailbox. I didn't see the spider who lives inside but judging by the size of the web, he is huge.
For those who know me, you will be surprised to know that I did not attempt to "do away with" the critter......not today anyway!!

Installment #5 of "Gone Fishin'" is here.
Enjoy!!
This lovely blue fabric, a Hoffman fabric - "Fundamentals" has a great watery look to it.

It works well with the fish theme.
Remember, this is called the "Staging/audition" phase, which means we are just thinking about and trying out what looks best. No pressing at this time unless you are certain about your choice.
Each week I am showing what the fish would look like in a certain settings. Each fish, weeds, pebbles, dragonfly, etc. have an adhesive on the back and until said pieces are pressed they can be moved around, placed on various backgrounds, etc. Once pressed, they are in a permanent position. So that's why I emphasis not pressing just yet. If you really like a setting, take a photo of it to refer to later. If your memory is anything like mine, you.............

What was I about to say??

Installment #4 for "Gone Fishin'" is here.
Enjoy.
Staging/audition segment

This blue fabric is a little too much for me but it does show off the striking colors of the fish and helps to emphasize the fins, tail and face area of the fish.
Again, no pressing at this time. If you like the fabric you're chosen, take a photo of it to remember it.
This McKenna Ryan's "Silent Inspirations" by Hoffman is a great piece. I've had it in my stash forever it seems.

This is one way that this particular fabric could be used. There are several lines of fabric with this type of gradation. The possibilities are endless.

It's Design Wall Monday again. Hey! Knowing I need to get something done to post keeps me on my toes. Go see what others are up to at Judy's.

Here's block #3 for my "Gone Fishin'" project.

I've used several Batiks with this fish and threw in a couple Thimbleberries as well.

Remember you can enlarge or shrink my designs to fit your needs and you all or any parts.

I have two staging photos to show today....

This first one, the background is one of my old Hoffman International fabrics, a screen print. There are subtle violets, purples, a hint of black in the veins and gray. This reminds me of water with reflections.

Turn that fabric on the back and add some lake weeds for a different look.
Remember the staging/audition process is just a way to see what you like best, so no pressing is involved at this point. You might change your mind so there's no hurry to get everything permanently in place.

And the other day I posted about my 90 degree turn discovery to use up some scraps. I was amazed and so happy to get rid of use up more scraps from my stash.
You can read all about it HERE.

Gone Fishin' block #2
I used a couple of fabrics that have been sitting around and needed a home in a quilt....LOL
The fins and body of the fish are said fabrics. I really love the look of this fish.
Remember, you can enlarge or shrink the free design that I'm providing below.

Free design from me!!

Block #1 from last week - now I have two.

A quick give away.......
By leaving a comment, you are in the "hat" for five 10" squares are my favorite, what I call, landscape/texture fabrics. These types of fabrics are great with making barns, scenery, fish or whatever else you can come up with. And if you are participating with the fish venture, these fabrics will really help. But anyone can win.
Take a look at the five squares....
These first 2 reminded me of fish scales.

The lighter brownish cream, I've used as tree bark and shading. The darker brown, I've used as stems on fruit and dying leaves on a fall project.

This piece is one of my favorites. I used it to make one of the catfish that you will see in a few weeks.
So these are up for grabs!

;-}
