this is the perfect way to hide from the unwanted eye. So please help me out if you are one of the non-responders.

It's Wild Around Here

Warning!!!   Warning!!!   Warning, Will Robinson!!!!  Okay, sorry I couldn't help myself with that opening from Lost In Space which was one of my favorite TV shows way back when. But seriously, if you're squeamish, look away NOW!!!
All the photos were taken with my iPhone. It's a handle thing since my camera is always misplaced.

As most of you know who follow me, I live in the country where there are plenty of wild things lurking about. In the above photo you are seeing a mole.......dead, thanks to my cousin Clark. This critter had been wrecking my yard for weeks leaving giant mole mounds. Clark is the local mole exterminator & he offered to "take him out" so to speak.
He did it!!! The mole was very crafty but Clark was patient. Look at the teeth on this thing....OMG!!!
I'm sure this isn't the end of my mole problem but it sure feels good to know that the granddaddy of all moles is no longer.  Thank You Clark!!!
Update:  Here's the latest photo of little "Show Girl," Showee for short. She stopped, posed for me, even started towards me in curiosity, then backed up. She's so funny to watch. Fairly soon afterwards she realized that her mom had moved off so off she dashed with her little tail in the air.
This beauty was fluttering about as I was gathering up some fallen branches after the big storm the other night. I was able to get quite close for the pic. This photo doesn't lend the beautiful coloring.
Finally, this is a photo of a branch/creek that fun thru the back forty. I'm thinking of doing a mini quilt from this pic.....if I have enough energy after all the hay baling.  We'll see.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and a nice Mother's Day.

Into The Woods

Before it rained yesterday....BTW, I'm doing the happy dance cause we got 3.7 inches, I went on another nature walk with my trusty camera.
We were having some dozer work done so I felt fairly safe.
Warning: Photo heavy!!

I love the way light and shadow appears in nature, so most of these pics were taken with that in mind.

These types of pics help me when I'm doing foreground/background blocks.

A tree trunk with character for sure.

This poor tree was riddled with bore beetle and woodpecker holes and a giant spider's web.

You can't see it very well but this tributary has recent hog prints in the muddy area.

And finally, Buzzard Bait and her sister kin are munching on range cubes. I had to feed them or they would have followed me around everywhere, begging...LOL

Kiwi Pie, Sort of

Happy Labor Day Weekend Everyone!!

Here's a quick sweet dessert that goes great with a cup of coffee
or a scoop of ice cream!

3 apples peeled and cubed (your choice) I use Delicious apples
1 kiwi peeled and cubed
1/4 cup butter
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice
4 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon Vanilla flavor
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 pie crust

Pre-heat oven 325 degrees
Spray pie pan before arranging pie crust and set aside
In large bowl, mix all ingredients stirring well.
Pour into pie crust and fold pie crust towards the center so that it lays over your mixture except just as the center. If you'd rather use 2 pie crusts then seal mixture within the two. Use a knife to slice and X in the center and pull edges  apart.
Sprinkle a little sugar and cinnamon atop crust and bake for 45 to 55 minutes.

I baked this recipe this morning with every intention of taking a photo. I took it out to cook and went out to the back forty to visit with Buzzard Bait. I was only gone about an hour and when I came back my company as arrived.
 There were crumbs left.......sigh
Everyone had a guilty look on their faces.
Well maybe I was gone a little longer than an hour because I got busy snapping pics of nature after Buzzard Bait grew tired of  following me around and looking for range cubes in my pockets. She was not happy that I didn't remember to bring her a treat......
Here she is gnawing on the handle of my old bike as a punishment to me. I tried to shoo her away but she was persistent.

It's been very dry here for a couple of years so some of land and trees are fairing not so well. We don't allow the cows back in this area at all.

Look at this beauty. I love dead trees. They have loads of character. You may see this one in a quilt one of these days.
So maybe it was my fault for not getting back to the house before the cousins arrived.....LOL

;-}

Don't count the days, make the days count!
