It's Been Awhile

Greetings blogger friends! It's been awhile since I've posted. I've been very busy working on my family's history, developing the family tree and looking thru photos. It's time consuming but I've learned a lot. Mom's memory is great for her age of 82. She only need a magnifying glass to see some of the older photos. We laughed a great deal as the stories pour out.

That's me at ten near our two room school. I have fond memories of those days.

First Ride

My first ride was a clean little red and white number with black spoked tires and two long tassles.

"Look out world, here I come!"

• In 1989 Cheerleading was founded at the University of Minnesota.
• The U.S. battleship Maine sank prompting war with Spain.
• The sci-fi novel War of the Worlds was  written by H.G. Wells.
• Robert Allison was the first to purchase a commercially manufactured automobile at the Winton Motor Carriage Company in Cleveland, Ohio.
• Potatoes were worth their weight in gold because of their vitamin C content. Miners actually traded gold for potatoes.

What does this have to do with anything??? It's just trivia but ......................

Edwin E., my granddad was born.
Though he has passed away many years ago, I will remember his voice, his pet name for me, Rhondee and all the wonderful life lessons he bestowed on me.

Family History

Mom had this photo stashed away but pulled it out to show me my great grandparents on my granddad's side.
I was so excited to see it and even posted it on my sidebar for all eternity..... LOL
I've mentioned that both my parents are only children so I have great aunts and uncles. In the photo standing are: great aunt Ettelene, Edwin (granddad), great aunt Ollie, cousin Oddie, great aunt Peachie and great uncle Will (Great uncle Will was not originally in the photo but was placed in by the photographer... wasn't he clever way back then).  Seated are: great grandfather Daniel, great grandmother Delia, cousin Vinnie and great uncle A.D.
Great-granddad Daniel worked for a railroad in south Texas while Great-grandma Delia raised the children and kept house.

Happy Easter Everyone!

Recently, I looked at my trusty calendar and discovered that this Sunday will be Easter. Ewe! Where did the time go? I remember just last year, it snowed on Easter in April. So why is Easter in March all of a sudden? Let's research it, shall we.....Well it has something to do with the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox which may occur as little as 2 or as many as 37 days from the equinox thus the occurance of Easter between March 22nd and April 25 of any year..............Did everyone get that? Ok......this is a pic of my grandma, granddad, brother David and me in our Sunday best of Easter 1961. Notice the baskets filled with eggs and candy (my favoirtes). Wow! That was sort of a long time ago but the memories make me smile.
