This old jar has been in my canning jar collection for years. In fact if belonged to my grandma. I can just picture her jelly or jam canned in this jar.
I don't know if you noticed but all around the jar's surface are little squares but on the front of the jar there's a smooth area for labeling.
How cool is that!!!
It's a Ball jar. On the bottom there's an ID # - 5014-T. How exciting!!!!
I've canned using this jar many times but now I think I'll retire this old gal.
Any canner out there with interesting stories or items to share??

Enjoy seeing those old jars. Used to have some but when we downsized my canning went out the door. My sister took all mine, but now she's downsizing and wonder where they will end up. Miss my canning days.
I have never seen one of those. I hope you use it for something else if you are retiring it from canning.
This is a great jar and I have never seen any like it. If it was your Grandma's, about what year do you think she would have been using it? I like associating things with years. My grandma was born in 1884. When we watch movies that associate the year with what is going on in history at that time that time period always makes me think about my grandma and how her life would have been.
I'm with Gene. You MUST display the jar in some way. It's so pretty.

I am thinking my mom had some of these, but it has been so long I am not really sure. I have seen them somewhere though. It would be so pretty in your sewing room with buttons in it.
I've never seen this jar - love the grid pattern. It would make a perfect flower vase - holding perhaps some wild flowers? Too pretty to not use for something! I don't can any more and I must admit I miss it, particularly the smell of the pickles cooking!
I LOVE the old jars. I have several that I have used for years. I should probably use them for display, but it is such fun to see them full.
What a great jar !! I love the simple old things like jars... and cans and things... I think those have more life stories in them than a lot of fancy things. Somewhere I have a large jar with a lid... that always cookies in it.. I am hoping I still have it... I am going through everything in the house as we are downsizing and selling our house. The "junk" as others call it, is what I have a hard time getting rid of.
How wonderful to have one that your grandmother used! Ball jars have been what I've used most of my life, sometimes Kerr, and way back in the olden days, I even had a few that had the Mason name in them. I was thinking the other day how funny it is that we still call them Mason jars, but I don't think there is a Mason company any more. In fact, someone else makes Ball and Kerr! But as long as someone keeps making them, I'll be happy. I was so surprised to see someone in Australia who cans using an entirely different system. Very interesting!
Hi Rhonda, Love to see the old canning jars. I miss doing this as we always had a great garden in Ohio but just have sand here in Fl . where I live. I would display that sweet jar for sure!. Hugs, Marie
