I mentioned yesterday that I'm using Bea Ogesby's book on birds and Flowers. Well things have gotten a bit complicated. Mr. Cowboy walked by, took a look and said, "The birds look naked!"
Sometimes I could just box his ears but I knew he was right.....SIGH!!!!!!!! And I had made tentative plans to do just that.
So back to the drawing board. I decided to add a few branches and leaves.
I'll do some hand embroidery on this one which is the Northern Cardinal.
On the Cedar Waxwing, I've added a winding branch and leaves. I may add some berries but at this point I really need to pull back and not over do things.
What are your thoughts on the matter????
Have I bitten off more than I want to chew.....LOL!?

Oh, dear - maybe less is more - maybe just the first bird on the border to make it "interesting" - and his friends on another quilt - where they don't detract from the string blocks - and to "keep it simple"? - ;))
Well, since I love both birds and string quilts, I like your idea. Your string quilt is gorgeous!
lol....so who invited his opinion anyway???? They are going to be gorgeous.
The birds add so much to this lovely string quilt. Could you use a vine for the birds to sit on? Perhaps just a partial vine, i.e., only on one or two borders?
Just a little bit will carry it. Don't over-do it and don't stress about it too much.
I love the last bird....you are always to good with detail.
More is more better! Can't leave the poor birds without anything to perch on!
I love the idea of adding the birds. Since you are adding the black border, you could sorta put some curves down one side and make it look like a tree. Then from there, you could add branches and leaves with the birds sitting on them. That is just me. You do such fabulous work whatever you decide will be perfect.
I have to cast my vote with Mr. Cowboy - the wee birdies need something to perch on. Should I duck and run now or later?
