Mr. Cowboy had just stepped off his 4-wheeler & was walking one of the fence rows when he heard thrashing in a wooded area. With little time to lose, a 200 pound sow charged him at close range. Two shots later my guy walked away from, what could have been, something I don't even want to contemplate.
Wild hogs are everywhere around these parts. It's wise to always carry a rifle. When he texted me a photo then called to say how close that hog was, my heart nearly pounded from my chest.
I won't go outside these days at night fall anymore because of the hog problem. Several of our neighbors have started hunting with hunting dogs because we are so over run.
These hogs have no natural enemies & they aren't afraid of anything.

My daughter in law lived in Texas and she talks all the time about hunting them. Do you eat them?

WOW! That is so scary. Thank goodness he had his gun with him and reacted in time. There is a bunch of them that stays in the woods down behind our house so we never go out late in the evening any more. And all the animals have been acting strange lately. We have had three foxes come right up to the deck in the daylight on separate occasions. My husband walked outside not knowing one of them was there and he said it wasn't afraid of him, just stood there watching. Needless to say, he came back in the house.We have seen other animals come in our yard that shouldn't have come this close. We have been warned of them carrying rabies so it isn't safe to go outside any more. Be careful!

So thankful Mr. Cowboy escaped the wrath of the wild hog. Fast on the draw was put to good use.
I praise God that Mr. Cowboy is fine. I have seen programs on television about the hog problem. They are a terrible problem - they destroy and are fearless.
There is an area west of town known for walking trails here in the Tulsa area. On the news last week, there was a story that many copperheads have been spotted. Apparently, they come out of feed when the temperature drops. We have been having record breaking heat already this year. In late May we were already having temperatures that were usual for late July and it has been sweltering. Our rain level is down since we had very little spring. The thing in the story that really surprised me is that the public was warned not to kill the copperheads. They were advised to go around the snakes that they are not usually agressive. People can be fined up to $200 for killing one. I would think they would be glad to get rid of them. I think the only good snake is a dead snake. I don't know if the area is a protected area since it's a park or not. My son and his family found a small snake when they were raking up leaves in my yard. I would have killed it, but my son put it down a drain that he knows goes to the creek behind the houses across the street. Being an Eagle scout, he carries information about how to tell poisonous snakes readily on his phone.
Again, glad Mr. Cowboy is fine. I bet he is shaken as are you.
Thank goodness all turned out well. Those buggers are frightening.
Oh my goodness!! We don't have wild hogs here but I can well imagine how scary they are. Good thing Mr. Cowboy had a gun handy! Glad he's okay.
