Can you see the sections I've outlined that will make up my version of the elephant?
Here it is from the back. This is the side I'll be tracing from.
Here I have placed the head, trunk and ears on top of my paper pattern to see if I like what's going on.
Sorry, I got so excited that I forgot to take more photos of the process. He's all done but now is the really hard part.
Auditioning background fabrics!!!
Auditioning background fabrics!!!
Did mention, auditioning background fabrics!!!
I'll be doing this for quite some time.....sigh.
I'll also need to do a bit more work on the elephant...more highlighting or something.
Stay tuned.

For a piece like your elephant, I love using a hand dyed gradient fabric. I am sure you will come up with a perfect background. .
That will be amazing. The elephant looks great so far and I know you will find the perfect background.
Auditioning background fabrics is fun - and when you find the right one - it's even MORE fun - ;))
It amazes me that you found such great fabric for the elephant itself. I love watching your process. I know you'll find just the right background. I'm interested to see how you highlight this guy.

Auditioning fabrics always leads to a gi-normous mess in my sewing room, because of course I don't put away the ones that didn't make the grade as I go. Going to be fun to see what you end up using.
