Monday, Monday

Make sure to visit Judy, our hostess for Design Wall Monday!!

Most of you remember John Wayne from THIS post .......at the time I made this one, I had no idea what I was going to do but as the 4th of July company visited on and on my mind began to wonder....don't get me wrong, I love family but after all the laughter, BBQ, potato salad, beans, pies, and iced tea.......I needed some down time.
I tipped-toed to the sewing room to ponder and pulled out some cowboy type fabrics. I squared up John by sewing strips around him and trimmed to 12 1/2 in. square.
I chose one of my favorite fabrics as the "kite" design. Normally, the kite would be a square piece of fabric (a foundation, if you will) with the "kite" drawn in, then sew varied size strips of either side.
Here's a sample of each block. I love the look of it. I added the rawhide/cowhide fabric to opposing corners.
First audition arrangement....BTW....this is a fractured diamond design.
Second audition arrangement.......which one looks better, do you think??

John finished so beautifully!!! I like both, but I may like #2 a wee bit more. Those fabrics are perfect for it.

It looks so much like him, it's unbelievable! Great work. I prefer the second look. The first one looks like there is a big X behind him, like he's bad or something. Just my thoughts.

Rhonda, Great job on the Duke! I'll go with the first setting of diamonds. When I saw the thumbnail of the duke on my blog reader, I had to laugh. I did a post today for Mish Mosh Monday on cowboy movies. And I love John Wayne movies!

Wow! I don't think you can go wrong with either design. Just personal preference, I like #1.
I know what you mean about family. I visited my daughter's house - you notice I say house, not her - for 2+ weeks. She was home for a total of 4 days and one of those days she, her mother-in-law (who invited herself) and I took the boys on the Railrunner (train) to Santa Fe. So, I had 3 days total with her. Of course, she was exhausted from her travels. Now, that I've been back home, I'm exhausted from potty training and trying to craft with a 3 year old and an 8 year old. Of course, the 3 year old wants to do everything the 8 year old does. It's difficult to no get tons of complaints from the 8 year old about what we do. Geez! It's hard to please him. We did clay; we took a picnic to the park and then played and played on both the big boy and little boy toys; we wrote with sidewalk chalk all over the driveway to welcome parents home; we went to big boy's end of season baseball party; we shopped for crafts so they would have input; we played with Play-Doh and cookie cutters; one day when mom was home, we made sun catchers. Best remark I got was OK! I let the big one use my stamps and help me stamp fabric for Grandmother's Flower Garden flowers. We read. I guess I can't compete with iPads. Love your quilt and get some rest.

;-}

Don't count the days, make the days count!
