As I was combing through my stash of quilting books, magazines and patterns, I ran across the pattern above and the ruler that goes with it. "Great," I thought, here's another way to get rid of use up some more of my stash.
So I started sewing different strips of fabrics together.
Using the trusty ruler, I cut the above shape.
Now which design do I want to make???? This one...... hummmmm
I'll have to use tone-on-tones to fill in the edges but that will come later.
Oh Rhonda, I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! I have to laugh at your comment....Great another way to use up my stash! I can tell your stash must GROW like mine does~ ♥♥♥ I am letting my grandchildren learn to sew, and they are using some of it us creating their pillows~

I have a similar ruler (not the one you have) but haven't used it. I suppose I should pull it out and try?

ReplyDeleteI like your thinking: those Y-seams are pesky (though if I practiced them I supposed I would be less likely to avoide them). The string-pieced kites are the basis for Bonnie Hunter's "Virginia Bound" in her book Scraps & Shirttails, but your setting is quite different. Thanks for the inspiration!
