Remembered

Today was my granddad's birthdate.......so I wanted to remember him because he was such a big part of my life. Edwin E. was born May 2, 1898......can you imagine.......1898.
I rememeber the first time my brother and I realized the significance of that year.  Imagine all the things Edwin E. had seen and lived through in his lifetime....inventions and developments........the Model "T", the airplane, The Great Depression, radio, the talky movies, fountain pen, crayons, black & white television, a man on the moon, ballpoint pen, color television, just to name a few.
Granddad told us stories about when he and Grandma lived in Chicago where he worked as a mail clerk in the mid to late 1920's.  By 1933, my mom was born and they'd moved to Kerrville, Texas to live near Edwin E.'s sister, Peachie.  Later he and Grandma moved to central Texas where I now live in their old house. 
Granddad was an educator. He taught Civics, Science and Math. He also became a Superintendent. At home and in the community, he was big into 4-H and community unkeep. He built a ham-radio and always encouraged my brother and I do try new things.
Granddad died in 1982 but all that he taught me and shared with me has never left me. 
Someone asked once, "If you could bring back anyone, even for one day, who would it be and why?"  My answer would be my Granddad....I could just hear him say, "Why Rhondee, what are all these new fangled things? Tell me about em', how do they work?" And I'd say.............
