It is surprisingly easy to use even though it does look intimidating. I think I have a buttonhole foot with most of my machines - except the Featherweight and maybe the 70's Kenmore. I don't thin...I have never used a button foot. I don't think I HAVE one. But I usually use an open foot or zig zag to stitch mine on. Unless I'm too lazy. Then I hand stitch.
