Gumbo Anyone?

The other day my mom asked me to make a pot of gumbo. My face immediately went blank. Gumbo! Gumbo! I have never made gumbo in my life and my mom knows this but was looking at me expectantly. Oh brother....what to do.......what to do??
I thought about it for awhile then did what any self respecting devoted daughter would do.....I Googled a recipe....hehehehehehehehe
Oh goody, there were literally sixty or so to choose from. I copied off several and combined them into my version.
I bought a packaged gumbo starter, added it to a big pot of water and brought that to a rolling boil. This was going to be easy. Then I reduced the heat.
I finely chopped a couple of stalks of celery, one medium onion and a fourth cup of garlic.
In a skillet, I made three dozen breakfast sausage meatballs to fry and drain. I added them to the pot along with a bag of frozen peeled and cleaned shrimp, one small package of frozen Okra and three thinly sliced links. The smells coming from that pot was really starting to make my mouth water. A couple of tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce was the final ingredient. All of this simmered for an hour.
I served it over steaming rice and the cute little clam chowder crackers sprinkled over top. Mom loved it.........all is well!!

Oohhh the picture made me hungry. I ate it at a restaurant once and loved it so decided to try and make it. it was quite sometime ago and now am thinking I should try again. No wonder I'm hungry it's almost lunch time and no breakfast either.

My mouth started watering as I read through your gumbo journey. I think I must make some for us. Thanks a lot!

Now you've gone and done it. I think I need to eat my turkey sandwich in an early lunch.
