Milkshake and Half-sisters

Here's Milkshake with two of her half-sisters. Aren't they cute??  I know you can't see it because of their coloring and my poor camera skills but all three calves have that Nike mark over the eye. I was shocked and laughed so hard when I saw the marks that I nearly fell out of the back of the truck. As you can see one of the little ones was coming over to see what's so funny.

And I couldn't post without showing you what BB (Buzzard Bait) is up to. She's the off white one who now weighs around 400 pounds. She's waiting patiently for me to open the gate so that she can be the first to get to the range cubes. She loves those "cookies" for sure. She hasn't seen her little sisters yet but one of these days she just might go for a visit.

I forgot to mention in my Starburst post the other day that anyone who wishes to make a starburst from my design is free to do so. I don't remember from time to time how many half squares there are (around 36 I think) that's why I always keep the design in front of me....LOL.....also, the little chart above is one I found years ago, I think it's from Eleanor  Burns, but it's saved me from figuring so much when making half squares. Sorry about the slanted photo.

Starburst

It started with doodling and thinking about all the half-square triangles in my stash of UFOs.
I've had this doodle for years and have used it many times so why not for one of my helping hands projects.
The squares I'm using measure 4 1/2 inches but as we all know you can make your half-squares and solid squares any size you require.

I love this design but it needed something.....
a border, of course.

I've had the blue floral fabric for a couple of years at least and this past summer I had cut it into long 7 1/2 inch strips so that the design could show. It has hung in my sewing room since.
What a wonderful way to use it.
This whole quilt top took two days to make. Had I not had to cook, eat, do laundry and other housework, surely I could have finished in a day.................LOL
This quilt measures 45 inches square and is going to the
helping hands group.

Monday, Monday

I've had this candy fabric for awhile & finally decided to use it. I added hearts & "XO" into the mix. I found a cute font in "Word", enlarged it, & stitched it down along with the hearts. All the brown backgrounds are, of course, from my stash as well and the little solid pink stop border framed things up well.
It will go to the helping hands ladies.
Make sure to pop over to Judy's to see what everyone else is up to on this wonderful Monday!!

It Snowed

Last night it snowed, our first of the year (2014). It doesn't snow usually here in central Texas, so this is a treat. The school kids aren't happy because they still had to go to school but I'm loving the beautiful scenery.
Happy Friday everyone!!

Mug Rug Thursday

The winner of  Mr. Peanut is

Vicki H.
There's a story behind the drawing for Mr. Peanut.
My granddaughter, Ayden pulled the name from a baseball cap I had laying around while asking all kinds of questions.
Ayden: GoGo, why do I have to pick a name from that hat?
Me: Well, it's only fair that everyone who commented gets a chance.
Ayden: GoGo, why can't we use the John Deere cap, I like it better?
Me: Well, sure, but I'm not sure where it is.
Ayden: GoGo, you're pulling my leg. You know where it is..........(Lots of giggles...BTW, she is learning to kidding around....sigh!!!)
Me: Ayden, just pull a name, before I really pull your leg!
Ayden: K! Then can I have cookies??
Me: Only if you can pull them from the John Deere cap!
She thought this statement was very funny.  So, congratulations to Vicki H. Just leave a comment so that we can get together via email.

"An Eye for Coffee" is the next mug rug give-away. Notice the corporate eyebrow.....LOL
Leave a comment and I'll draw a name in two weeks. Will announce a winner February 6th.
Note: Remember I'm now doing mug rug give-aways every two weeks this year.
I've enjoyed making the rugs but this year I've joined a group of ladies who make quilts for nursing homes, shelters and other organizations so I'm a little stretched.

New Name for Baby Sister

In this first photo I was attempting to get a picture of Buzzard Bait (that white blur)
but it was feeding time and she was determined to get ahead for the others so that
she could gobble up as many range cubes as
her tummy could hold.

Remember little Baby Sister......
Thanks to everyone who participated in choosing a name for her.

Ayden finally visited and used my number generator to choose a name. The girl loves that generator and would have clicked it over and over if I hadn't stepped in. Needless to say, Ayden wasn't happy until I offered cookies to distract her......LOL (ancient grandma secret)
So greetings little "Milkshake"

Monday, Monday

As you can see, I'm making the most of my "cowboy" fabrics.
These quilt tops will go to the helping hands ladies in my community who quilt them to be given to nursing homes clients, needy children & other groups.

Well, well, "Empty Diamonds" is finished & I'm so pleased with this one. Someone will want to snag it right up quickly!!
Making small quilt tops is a lot of fun. Can you see me smiling real big??

This last quilt idea came from the rabbit fabric. I only had about a half yard left so I made the rabbit and daisy blocks. I also used a burnt orange fabric to bring brightness to the quilt.

So, I'm plugging along with quilt tops and new ideas..... all the fabrics used come from my stash which has not diminished one little bit and of course, now I have more strips to works with.............sigh!!
BTW, if you've noticed that some or most of the photos are askew, it's because I've been take them with my cell phone and can never seem to get directly over the top of the tops. You'd think I'd just go and get my regular camera but.....oh no, I'm determined to figure that cell phone app out.....
Make sure to pop over to Judy's sometime today, to see what others are up to!!

Empty Diamonds

This is my latest project, which I've named "Empty Diamonds."
I saw a design similar to it but can't remember where. I always want to give credit to the person!!
I am using gray background fabrics which measure 6 1/2 by 11 1/2. If you are wondering why that measurement , because I have a ruler that size & it's so much easier to just go
 with that.....laugh out loud!
I'll need to stitch everything down and then together. And of course there's the border to consider....oh my!!
This will probably go in my helping hands stack.
If you are looking for Mug Rug Thursday....remember I'm doing that every two weeks this year.

Monday, Monday

Two new quilts for my community helping hands. All fabrics from my stash. I've decided to do quilts from each theme of fabrics so "cowboy" is the theme for now until I get tired of making tops from those.........laugh out loud!

Baby Sister

Let me introduce Buzzard Bait's new little sister.
 Isn't she cute?
It's hard to see but over her right eye is a small white swish.
The rest of her is that pretty putty brown color. She's about 7 days old and very healthy.
BTW, her mom hasn't changed one little bit. She's over at the feeder
neck deep in range cubes......laugh out loud!!
I'll need your help coming up with a name.  Can't wait to see what you think!!

Mug Rug Thursday

Happy New Year everyone!
I hope we all didn't gain too much weight over the holidays. I really tried to cut back but haven't ventured toward my bathroom scales yet.......sigh.

It's good to get back to Mug Rug Thursday, as well. I won't be able to do the rug give away each week, I'm sad to say but will at least have them every two weeks.
Life has seemed to speed up and my sewing time has nearly stopped. I don't know how that happened but for now, that's the way the "cookie crumbles!"
Is anyone else having this same situation??

Here's my version of
My Peanut.
We ate pounds of peanuts over the holidays; roasted, in cookies, and even in a salad.
Just leave a comment to be in the count.
I'll announce the winner on January 16th.

Motivated

I am motivated to "clear" out my UFO boxes. There's just too many things that I've not finished or forgotten about. So this year I'm bound and determined to either make a dent or totally finish putting together those projects.  Of course whatever fabrics I was supposed to use have been used in other quilts and I'm not buying any more fabric until I get said UFOs done.....so it's off to the old stash for everything.......LOL
The first quilt above came from strips that I had sewn into tubes a couple of years ago and never got back to. It was easy to unsew each tube to sew into a staggered design.  I added the green fabric because I liked the way it looks with the black/white/red. That was going well but when I laid it out and stood back, it needed something...what? I didn't know and went to bed. As we all know, sleep lends great ideas.......I added an ABC font and now it's complete and I love it. I'm donating a lot of my UFO tops to a local helping hands group and this little quilt will make some child smile.
The next quilt top you've seen a couple of times before. I've just added another border from my stash and will possibly do another design around that......this will take some thinking on my part which not amount of sleep will help..... so cross your fingers....hehehehe

January First

The pinwheel blocks have been in my UFO box for "years" and I've looked at them every once and awhile but yesterday I decided to do something with them. I pulled two fabrics to add to the mix and here's the results.
This quilt top measures 52 by 62 and will be a donation quilt top to a great bunch of ladies who help the elderly.

;-}

Don't count the days, make the days count!
