If you are a "non-responder or OpenID-er" which to me means I have no way of responding to a comment that you've left, please leave a way for me to get in touch with you, especially if you're participating in a blog give-away or if you are asking for information or links.
By leaving your email within your comment, I can find you. I realize that this is sometimes a scary thing to do with scams and all but if you disguise the email as say.....

this is the perfect way to hide from the unwanted eye. So please help me out if you are one of the non-responders.

Hand Embroidery BOW #3

Round 3 of the hand embroidery twelve week series is a kite flying over the mountains in the background.
Just click on the Kite link to download the design and enjoy!
If you have just found me and would like to have the designs, just scan down to the precious Tuesdays to get caught up.
I did notice that some of the following Tuesdays will fall on holidays.... not to worry, the links will always be up for your convenience.

Here's another look at the clean-up I did this past weekend. Actually it's a video
of burning branches and debris.
It was interesting to see the different stages of the fire. I'm thinking of a way to
make this into a quilt....LOL

Alzheimer's Awareness Month in November

From:   Ami Simms

CELEBRITY INVITATIONAL QUILT AUCTION  STARTS NOVEMBER 1ST
The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AlzQuilts.org) offers an online auction during the first 10 days of every month. Each November, in honor of National Alzheimer's Awareness Month, the AAQI offers 12 very special quilts. This year the auction quilts have been made by world renowned quilters Alex Anderson, Hollis Chatelain, Caryl Bryer Fallert, John Flynn, Diane Gaudynski, Becky Goldsmith, Pat Holly, Libby Lehman, Marsha McCloskey, Sue Nickels, Mary Sorensen, and Ricky Tims.

The quilts are about 16" x 16" and the auction is open to the public.

Last year the 12 quilts offered in the November auction raised more than $14,000 for the AAQI, an all-volunteer effort to raise awareness and fund research through art

Burning Artwork

I love unusual things and taking photos of them is a passion.
We were doing some burning in the hay fields (old fallen trees & roots) and I was able to
snap these to photos. The first is of several large tree limbs that had burned through and make a beautiful sculpture. Notice the fire underneath. Reminded me of a fire pit.

This second photo was a close-up of limbs that had burned and made those wonderful cracked designs from the heat. I managed to get a blaze of flames in the photo as well.
Who knows, these just might become quilt designs one of these days.

Determined

Determined......yes, that describes me these days.  Determined to get rid of use as many of my scraps as possible.  That's why I started this scrappy string hoping to use most of my yellow scraps......I'm making a pretty good dent but, we'll see.
On a different note......just wanted to share Ayden when her daddy and Ayden eating breakfast at GoGo's. Note the ketchup on her scrambled eggs.....OMG, I thought I'd be sick when she asked me to keep pouring it on. Kids!

Finally, here's a sneak peek of what's in store for Tuesday's BOW!!

Mmmmmmm, Yummy

I bought some lamb ribs the other day, marinated them over night in salt, pepper, sherry and a tablespoon of orange juice. I know strange but what a kick to the mix.
I set the oven at 275, while it was preheating, I then rubbed some plum jam over the ribs and placed thick slices of onions over them.
Using a rack and large shallow pan, I placed the ribs over a cup of water and baked for about 2 1/2 hours or until tender.
I wanted to show what the ribs looked like when I pulled them from the oven but.......family quickly closed in and demolished them.....oh well....but trust me, they were very tasty served with candied yams, greens and cornbread!!

"Flatties"

I was surfing the Net the other day and stumbled across Melanie Testa's post about breast cancer and a discussion about, well I just post the LINK so that you can read it for yourselves.
Anyway, Melanie was calling for 1000 pockets for the Cause. I pledged two and here they are. The deadline is October 23rd so there's still time to participate if you'd like.

Mug Rug Give-away

Well, I got busy and finished stitching down then stippled Mr. Jack-o-Lantern and did the binding for this little quilt.
It's a great size for a large mug of coffee, coco or tea.
So, I then decided to do a quick give-away for anyone who wants a cheerful mug buddy.
All you need to do is leave a comment stating you want in and I'll draw a name by Friday and possibly mail it off on Saturday so that the lucky winner can enjoy it the rest of October.
Make sure to pop over to Judy's to see what everyone else is up to on this
Design Wall Monday!

Quilt Jack-o-lantern Project

I used the backside of the background fabric, an orange batik that I've been hoarding for years for the face, a solid  darker orange for accent shading, a gray mottled fabric for the hat (BTW, I collect gray fabrics of all shades. They are really great as accents most of the time.), Moda black for shading, a very small piece of white-ish sliver fabric for the buckle and a dark green for the grass.
Of course, I used my favorite adhesive - Steam-a-seam! Maybe in the next couple of days I'll get everything stitched down and machine quilted. BTW, this little block is about 9 1/2 inches square.

A Day At The Fair

I had a chance to go to our annual state fair in Dallas. The day was slightly overcast, cool and it was Senior Day, which means anyone 55 or older got in free.  I knew that getting older had its perks!!

Below is the quilt sponsored by the Texas Agriculture Department. Every other year they choose a theme, post instructions, send out fabric and judge the blocks to be sewn into a great quilt. I did not participate this year but love seeing what other talented ladies produced.
I've included a few of the blocks, in close-up, that were my favorites.

;-}

Don't count the days, make the days count!
