Chunk

We have a saying here in Texas, "If the clothes don't fit chunk em."  That's just what I've been doing today.  This morning I got up with the idea of cleaning out some closet space and as we all know, once you get started, you see articles of clothing that you don't want to throw away.  That was the case with me....so I just had to try a couple of on......only they didn't fit.
I don't know who washed them in very hot water and made them shrink......I can't imagine who would be so cruel.....but I couldn't fit into most of them. Boy was I upset....so out came the very large trash bag (the 39 gallon one) and I began to "chunk" things in.  I chunked several of my favorite blazers, a wonderful pant suit, several skirts (stupid things wouldn't even zip and I sucked in my tummy until it hurt). I chunked alot of my favorite blouses from my teaching days and a bunch of high heels that if I were to wear them now, I'd break my neck.  I chunked sweaters, scarves and a coat or two....it was terrible but someone at the Goodwill store will be very happy this season.......
Tomorrow, I'll start on the next closet, surely there's something in there I'll be able to fit into.....cross your fingers, everyone.

Right now my project measures roughly 13" square.

Round One

Well, I finally finished round one of this little quilt (approx. 29" X 29").  If you remember, I've been experimenting with fabrics and finally settled on the scrappy look.  I just happened to have some scraps lying around and dug right in.  After making several groups of half square triangles, I couldn't help myself.....I started a couple of rows just to make sure that I'd like this design.
I like to take pictures during the process and review them as I go along.....this really helps to see any mistakes but, alas, there are times when you still don't see what's wrong.
I decided to make this quilt small because I really like the looks of the smaller quilts. In this way, you can hang more around the house, drape them over the sofa, use them as table runners and whatever else you can think of.
The blocks are 2 1/2" squares and HS.  I did try to not look at each one as I sewed them together.  There are a few of the same one together but you really can't tell.  I'm happy the way things turned out.
The next round is going to be a dark stopping strip followed by a little surprise...so stay tuned.

Now You See Me.........

I've been thinking.........I need a cloaking device like the one the Klingon War Bird ships used to hide from their enemy, Captain Kurt and the Starship Enterprise.  I don't think you all understand why I'm feeling this way..........well, I'll elaborate......every time I even think about sewing or embroidering.......someone calls to chat, comes by to borrow something or wants to sit and visit.......oh and they want my undivided attention...........so I'm thinking if I had that cloaking device thngy............all I'd have to do is push the button or slip a switch..........and go invisible......take your pice.........who's with me?

Tote It!

Paula over at Coffee Time challenged anyone who wanted to join in, to a holiday tote swap.  The neat thing about this swap was that everybody knew what was going on, who their swap partner was, what preference, etc.  I was so excited, I jumped on it.  My swap person was Mary who loves snowmen.  So, of course, her wish came true with the tote viewed from the front and back.

The next picture is on the great tote and goodies I received from Tudy....she really nailed it with the chocolates...hehehehehehehe......I'll be taking my tote grocery shopping very soon.  I also received 2 Fat Quarters, a pin cushion and a wonderful needle holder.  Thanks Tudy!!

10 Things Only Women Understand

I ran across this little list the other day in a Women's magazine and just had to post it.

Ten things only women understand:

10.  Cats' facial expressions.
9.  The need for the same style of shoes in  five different colors.
8.  Why bean sprouts aren't just weeds.
7.  Fat clothes.
6.  Taking a car trip without trying to beat your best time.
5.  The difference between beige, ecru, cream, off-white and eggshell.
4.  Cutting your bangs to make them grow.
3.  Using the shopping cart as a crutch.
2.  The inaccuracy of every bathroom scale every made.
And
1.  Other women

Note: This post is not meant to offend anyone.

Return from Retreat

This is the T-shirt quilt top that I started and finished at retreat.  A friend's son has been collecting these for "years" and his mom saved them.  Since I taught him in 4th grade, she wanted me to make the top....kind of a sentimental thing.....I thought it was very sweet and I was honored.
I used the old Steam-a-Seam method then zigzagged around each design.  Piece of cake.....not hardly but it wasn't as difficult as I thought.  It helps to have great girl friends cheering you on!

The above are the Row Robins our "wacky" group is working on this year.  I chose vertical rows of vines, so the group is hard at work to complete them......we really didn't set a completion date because things never go as planned, so we're really rolling with the flow.
This beauty is Annie's (no blog) requested challenge from 2 years ago. We all made blocks with a Texas theme and Annie finished it off. This was the last quilt that our friend Jerri was able to participate in, so Annie really cherishes this one.

My Age Is Showing

I'm 55 and proud of that, however........the world is rushing by muddling up my tiny, little brain.  There are so many things I don't understand or can't catch on to until much later.........for example......Webring.....heard it a few years ago but the term went right over my head until just recently.....with the facebook, blog followers, swap-mate, etc.........oh, I get it.......web, as in website....ring, as in ring of friends or like minded people........Finally....got that one........
Onto the term WOOT.....didn't have a clue as to what that meant until one of my boy's explained it's slang for victory or accomplishment..........after hearing this, I was still puzzled because how the heck do you get victory from WOOT....I ask you?
Finally, F.A.P.  ...............anyone?  Thought not!
I still don't know what the letters stand for but I do ....now know what happens when you get fapped........it seems I went over my "limit" of bites or whatever, on the Net so my Internet provided cut off my link-up......OMG..........$%^&*()~+_)(*&^~^&*()#
Not to worry. A very nice technician explained it all to me in little bitty words and helped to solve my problem.  So I'm back on the Net and will never do whatever I did to get "fapped" again......LOL

I'm smiling again.

English is Crazy

More craziness:

How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

you can make amends but not one amend.

In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital; ship by truck and send cargo by ship; have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?

Shield

Greetings everyone!  I'm finally on retreat and enjoying myself.......LOL......we're all set up and sewing up a storm........the only thing I forget to bring was my camera cord to upload pictures.....boooo whooooo!
So, I'll share what I've been working on from last week.  This little shield block will go in a wall hanging from next 4th of July.
By Monday, I'll have picts to show unless I figure out how to transfer from camera to computer without cord....LOL

More English is Crazy

The other week I posted about the craziness of the English language.  Below is another sample of our wonderful way with words.

6.  A bass fish was painted on the head of the bass drum.
7.  When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
8.  Bob didn't object to the object.
9.  They were too close to the door to close it.
10.  After a number of injections, his jaw became number.

Dull & Boring or.........

A few months ago I posted this picture of the project I was thinking about making. I knew, by the way, you all helped me out, that the fabrics I chose were all wrong.  They just didn't "pop" as we say in the quilting world.

So I decided to go really scrappy and used some of my 1500 - 2 1/2" squares to help out.  Now, I am nowhere near finished but I do like what I'm seeing so far......what do you all think?

English is Crazy

I was reading an article in a Seniors Newspaper the other week and ran across the topic of "English is Crazy," researched by S. Capps.  Since I'm over 50 most of what I read made perfect sense to me because school back in the day, as my boys would say, was intense and my teachers were thorough.  Well, I digress, so here's a sample from the article:
1. The bandage was wound around the wound.
2. The farm was used to produce produce.
3. He could lead if he would get the lead out.
4. The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
5. Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.

There are more of these wonderful English wordings that I hope to share in the future.

New Drawers

Gotcha!  I know what you were thinking with my title.  heheheheheheheheh    I purchased another drawer unit and a 24 X 36 inch Formica board.

I will be taking this little number on all my retreats........each drawer houses threads, scissors, small rulers, fabric squares and every other gadget I could think of.  My sewing chair fits snugly between the 2 drawer units.......Velcro holds the board in place from underneath.......I can't wait to try this out.

;-}

Don't count the days, make the days count!
