Tempting Template For Fractured Diamond

Tutorial Part 1

From a scrap of stiff stablizer cut a square. The size can be of your choosing.  For this tutorial, I'm using a 6 1/2 inch square.

Using a marker or ink pen, mark 3 inches from the corner of two adjourning sides.  Example below.

In the opposite corner from the two 3 inch marks, draw a 1/4 inch box as shown above.  The reasoning behind this is to establish a stopping point when connecting each 3 inch mark to the bottom area.

The above picture is what your template, for the Fractured Diamond, should look like.

Now cut on the two apposing lines freeing your template.

Now you have a workable template.

Choose and cut your foundation fabric the same size as your original square. I am using 6 1/2 inch square. Place the template on the foundation as shown above.  Make sure the fabric is right side up.

Iron the the sides of the fabric over the template.  By doing this, you eliminate the need to draw on your fabric.

Once you have ironed, unfold the now creased fabric from the template and remove the template.  Your folds will remain, as shown below, for many days.

Now you are ready to sew varied strips of each side, leaving the middle open on the foundation.

Believe it or not, it took about 1 hour to get from the making of the template to the ironed squares.
