500th Give-Away

Read my lips.......I've finally gone and done it.......posted 500 times......Wow!  Well, actually it's 501....I missed it by one.....nevertheless...
That was pretty quick.
In honor of this very special event, I'm hosting a give-away that all quilters will love.
First, let me tell you what's so great about this give-away.......the winner will receive an
online $20 gift certificate to "Common Threads" located in Waxahachie, TX.
(my favorite quilt store)
Pop over using the link above to see what Common Threads has to offer.
I made this give-away an online thing because if you don't live in my neck of the woods, it will be easy to select what you want via online.
Now, here's how you get you name in the hat.....so to speak.......

  1. Leave a comment telling me that you are going to Post about my give-away for 1 chance

    2.   Link back to my blog within your post for 2 more chances & remember to mention that you're linking back when you comment to me that first time.  So I'm trusting you for the link back because I may not be able to check everyones.
That's all it takes.  I will be drawing a winner in a couple of weeks so make sure you check back to see who the luck person is.  Once the drawing is over and the winner picked, that person will be able
to get some Christmas shopping done.
This "give-away" is for all quilters!

Squash Dressing with a Dash of Family

It all started with the Squash Dressing recipe: 5 medium sized yellow squash cubed 2 large onions finely chopped 1/2 celery (optional) 4 cups chicken broth 1 stick butter or margarine Simmer the above ingredients in large sauce pan for 40 minutes or until squash/onions are tender. Pre-heat oven @ 350* In large bowl combine: Cornbread crumbled (pre-cooked in 9X13 pan) Simmered ingredients 3 eggs slightly beaten Poultry seasoning - 4 to 6 teaspoons or to taste Accent seasoning 2 slices of cubed bread Mix well. Pour into large baking pan and bake for an hour. The squash keeps the mixture moist.

After the turkey and dressing came out of the oven and all the fixing were done and on the table...........everyone came a-running.  Ayden & Sarah were wonderful and very entertaining.  I had a great Before Thanksgiving dinner last night with the boys and their families.  Today, it's on the Mom's house for more eating.......LOL.....did I mention Pumpkin pie!

Ayden @ One!

Here's little Sarah...GoGo's second Gran!!! Sarah is 7months old. What a cutie pie! In no certain order here's some of what went on Ayden's First Birthday Party. Her theme was "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." Her daddy made the Butterfly cake (yes, I said daddy......the boy can bake, let me tell you) and mommy made all the caterpillars on the tables and Ayden's butterfly wings (Angie said that it took her a couple of months to do all that). In one of the videos Ayden is walking with her arms in the air. At first I thought she was wanting to be picked up.......but no, she was flying......just like the butterfly at the end of the story...........cute.......hehehehehehehe

Favorite Fabric Monday

Aunt Grace - "Ties One On" from the collection of Judie Rothermel for Marcus Brothers Textiles, Inc. I love this fabric.......already made a couple of aprons from it and used a portion in a quilt.

Easy & Quick Label

I wanted to make a special label for Ayden's quilt so I used a sheet of the T-shirt paper and made this cute little label for her.  If you're wondering about "Little Fire"..........her name literally means "Little Fire from the House for Armando."  Armando is her dad.

One Year

This is the backing and the pocket rod fabric for Ayden's quilt. It's "Orchard Prints" by Thimbleberries for R.J.R. Fashion Fabrics. I traced the edge slightly curving ruler then stitched over the chalk lines to achieve this simple yet quick machine quilting technique.
Just about finished here. Next the binding.
This is the mini-quilt that I've made in honor of Ayden's first birthday which is coming up very soon. It is amazing when I look at these pictures and realize the changes and growth that she has made. I am always awestruck at the process and steps each infant to toddler that babies go through.........from their first smile, teething, holding their bottle, rolling over, crawling, walking and even their first words. Babies are amazing little people who are learning every waking moment. They watch and listen to everything we say and do. So let's all be aware and positive and cherish our little ones.

Autumn Toppers

These two little table toppers were made from strips of scraps from my "Fractured Diamond" quilt which you can see in the post below this one. I had no real idea of what I was making until I looked through my collection of idea designed that I keep in a 3 ring notebook. So far the smaller top measures 15" square.......the larger measures roughly 12" x 15". These projects took one day to make. I'm planning to stitch around everything sometime this week.

This little quilt is called "Fractured Diamonds"

Elm Creek Quilts - Gerda's Collection by Jennifer Chiaverini 2003 for Red Rooster Fabrics - 10787.

This fabric makes for a great background and blends well with browns, muted golds, certain tone-on-tones and some blacks as you can see in the pics above.

For A Friend

A friend of mine asked me to make a memory quilt for she and her family. Well that was back in February...........I don't know what happened to my time but, I'm finally finished with it. Most of the leaves have the family's names, birth-dates and marriages. The blocks are what Janice remembers from her early married life until the present. I really enjoyed making this quilt. It measures roughly 64 X 84.

Quick Quilt

Here are just a few sample blocks of a great quilt block that my friend, Molly introduced me to years ago. It's the "Double Pinwheel" and by using various contrasting fabrics, you can get two, yes I said two quilts from this one process. I call it the negative - positive effect. Anyway, this quilt can be made in a matter of a couple of days and striking results. Everyone will think that you have spent hours and weeks making the two.
I don't remember which quilt magazine or book this came from......does anyone recognize it?

Just Now....

I just took this pic of the deer between my neighbor and me. There were alot of them scampering about and party-ing before this weekend so it was hard to get them in one shot............LOL......They seemed to know that this was their last chance to be seen in the open before "Deer Season" starts this weekend...........I'm closing all the windows, hammering up all openings in my house..........because sometimes the "hunters" shoot alittle wildly........LOL.....but not funny when you're in the moment.
