The Tyler Quilt Show

The other day a few of us "Wackies" visited the Tyler Quilt Show. The theme this year was "Hats Off to Quilting!" We, of course took the scenic route.....you had to be there. Anyway, we saw what Tyler is famous for.....it's beautiful flowers.....azalea and roses. Once we found the convention center, all was well. The quilts were beautifully displayed and there were plenty of vendors to relieve you of your purse.....LOL......The pic I chose to show is a close up of a form of a star quilt....note the simple block pattern and imagine the possibilities. Next, it was on to A Nimble Thimble's new address......don't ask me how to get there because I'm terrible with directions so my friends tell me........ The new address is 1813 Capital Dr. #300, Tyler, TX (903/581/4926)........Anyway the new place is much bigger and well thought out. One interesting thing I bought was the "Quilters Pocket Map of Texas"..........It has about 47 quilt shops all over Texas and a free pattern from Quilt in a Day by Eleanor Burns. Visit there website for more info or to purchase our own..... www.quiltvisionusa.com

A Day to Applique`

Well, make that two days. This is the "Wackies" monthly applique` time but some of us decided to spend the night at the deer camp. We always have plenty of food and lots of laughter. It was so peaceful out there at our dear friend's camp with sounds of birds chirping, insects buzzing, the colorful butterflies fluttering from flower to flower......it was just amazing...........Oh wait, did I mention the squirrel that gnawed loudly on the deer antler and scampered all over the roof of the building pausing every now and then to crack a nut on the tin roof...............Other than at, everything was so peaceful and soothing and beautiful.......LOL

Oldie

This quilt top was made by my great aunt, who left it to me. It reminded me of the "square in a square" quilts. Notice all the wonderful old fabrics, most of which are from dresses, feed sacks and anything else she could get her hands on to cut up and sew back together.

Happy Easter Everyone!

Recently, I looked at my trusty calendar and discovered that this Sunday will be Easter. Ewe! Where did the time go? I remember just last year, it snowed on Easter in April. So why is Easter in March all of a sudden? Let's research it, shall we.....Well it has something to do with the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox which may occur as little as 2 or as many as 37 days from the equinox thus the occurance of Easter between March 22nd and April 25 of any year..............Did everyone get that? Ok......this is a pic of my grandma, granddad, brother David and me in our Sunday best of Easter 1961. Notice the baskets filled with eggs and candy (my favoirtes). Wow! That was sort of a long time ago but the memories make me smile.

I've Been Tagged! Thank You, Molly

Well, it's finally happened! I've been tagged by Mollyhttp://sewhappy10000.blotspot.com/. I think I'm going to scream with excitement. The subject is Weird and Wacky. Alright! That's right up my alley.......First I have to post the rules, then tell you what's so weird and "wacky" about me. Then it's my turn to TAG. Rules: 1. Once you are tagged, link back to the person who tagged you. 2. Post The Rules on your blog. 3. Post 7 weird or random facts about yourself on your blog. 4. Tag 7 people and link to them. 5. Comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged. About Me: 1. I happen to be a member of the WackyPac Quilting group. The name comes from an experience we had making a Stack & Wack quilt. Needless to say, it took all of us to even make a cut. 2. I taught for 29 years. Nothing wacky or weird about that except I taught fourth grade science and we experimented at least 3 times a week. That's hands-on experiments, people. Thus the nervous tick above my right eye..........hehehehehehehehe 3. Being a science teacher, the students expected pets for the classroom..........That wasn't going to happen and I'll tell you why........I don't like anything that flies, flutters, slithers, crawls, hobbles, gates, etc. You get the picture. However, I did break down one year and had........earthworms for pets......hehehehehehehehehe 4. I do love nature and will hike into the back forty every now and then. We have a lake and lots of wildlife out there.............I carry my bug spray, a shotgun, camera, flashlight, a small hoe......hey, you can't be too prepared! 5. I have developed 4 quilt patterns, two of which were judged in the "Done In One" contest from Fons & Porter this past February. They are now on tour......somewhere. 6. I have no uncles or aunts because my mother and father were only children. 7. I love to take pictures and share with with everyone on my blog or in my automatic picture frame thingy. When I went cruisin' with my "wacky" friends recently, I took 537 pics and movies.....I really looked like a tourist! Working Cruise

The cruise we recently went on, I might have failed to mention, was also a working cruise. Each of us took day classes. In this pic, I'm working on an applique project. Yes....I said applique.........LOL.........for those of you who don't know me very well.....applique is not my thing but I did manage to complete this particular project.....pic f the butterfly shows of the colorration of the batik fabric which Robin Pandoff provided. I actually wanted to finish the project and worked on it in my spare time. I was proud to show it off at the "ending program" on that last Saturday.

First Dinner

Here were all are for our first dress-up dinner. We were so excited to get to wear our evening things. And after watching Oprah the week before about looking good naked, I, especially felt good about myself. I think we good great for over 50, don't you? Notice, I mentioned the age 50ish. I'm not embarrassed or worried or upset that I'm over 50. I earned it, girlfriend and am happy to have achieved it. Don't worry about your age because it's advancing and the alternative.....well, I'm not ready for yet. Life is great and filled with surprises and there's lots more to do. So let's get to it!

Eating Healthy

At age 52 I think I'm holding up well!.....LOL I'm proud of my age because I earned every bit of it. The other month, I was brousing the suppermarket and stumbled upon this wonerful cereal by Post. I scanned it to blog about it because it is simply amazing. It's healthy and it sustains you thoughtout your busy day. I know I sound like a commercial but it's true. Try it for a week or two and make your own judgment. By the way, the pic is one of many from the cruise. We had a blast. More pics to come in various posts.

Cruisin' Part One

This may take awhile. Finally, it all took place. We arrived on Galvestion Island around 11ish Sunday, February 24, 2008, found our parking spaces, unloaded all of those suitcases and boarded the van that took us to the ship which is in the background of this picture. Totally cool.
You wouldn't believe the luggage we took. I've got a pic somewhere and will share later. Anyway most of us (8) had at least two pieces plus two carry-ons. Everyone told us not to take that much but we all bought clothes and shoes and stuff for the past 8 months......and we were taking everything.............OK!
If you're wondering about this pic. My mother was very afraid about me going on this cruise and made me promise to wear a life jacket.......so this is me wearing the life jacket for all of 2 minutes for my mother. Note the expression on my face.......it was heavy, hot and combersome!
