Contest Results...Continued

This is the "Star of Hope" quilt that I draphed, cut and sewed and enterned in the "Done in One" quilting contest. It received the ribbon "Easiest to Assemble" which I was very happy about. I love experimenting with 1/2 square triangles and subtle fabric changes.
This would be really striking in dark blue and tone-on-tones.......don't you think?

Ten Degrees

Posted by PicasaWho would have guessed that a 10 degree ruler could produce such a striking quilt? I discovered the ruler and a book to go along with it (Quilts Without Corners by Cheryl Phillips) years ago. After gathering the fabrics that I thought would make the quilt pop, sewing carefully and pressing not ironing, I got a very pleasant surprise. But the center was lacking. I showed it to my, then students and they said it looked like the sun and needed a face. Wow! They were right and this is the results.
We named the quilt "Mr. Sunshine."

Brand New

He's here! It's one of my neighbor's down the way, new babies. It's a boy. Isn't he precious. His mom is very protective and nervous of anyone getting too close but I couldn't resist this pic. Now, I know some of you that know me are wondering how I got up the nerve to get close enough to even take this picture..........well, silly..........someone else took the picture for me.....duh............there is no way in the world that I would get that close to something that is as big or bigger than me! LOL

Girls Night Out

Last night was our "Girls Night Out" and the last time we could need before the "cruise." We were all so excited, all talking at the same time.....lol.....you know how that goes. Anyway, we did have share time. Both quilts were quilted by Kathy Logsdon, our own long-arm quilter. The first quilt was put together by Jerri. She was involved in a swap group. The second quilt (Hearts) was made by Annie who made the quilt for your granddaughter's school.

Queen Me

Well I received the results of the contest "Done In One." My quilts (2) didn't place but I felt so good for trying. As I said in a previous blog.....this was my first time to enter a contest. Gini, the contest coordaniter, was very nice and said that even though severl of us did not place, we are getting ribbons. The Star of Hope quilt received "Easiest to Assemble and Things-Texas received "Best Use of Intergrated Techinques. I really felt like a Queen when I received the "E", thus the little crown thingy. Remember quilt bloggers....get out there and try some of those challenges and contests. You never know what will happen. You could be a "Queen of a Day" like me.....Did that comment just date me? Remember the game show "Queen for a Day?"

Contest

Two months ago my friend, Molly, emailed the "Wackies" about a contest...."Done in One" by Fons & Porter and the QNNtv network. At the time, I paid little attention to it but didn't delete it either. In early December I revisited the "E" and decided to participate. I downloaded all the paperwork, read it over, made a quilt, got it quilted and sent it off. The following weekend or two later, I did the same thing just for fun.............Well lo and behold.........I'm into Round Two..........WOW! I couldn't believe it. Both quilts made it........ I'll know of the winners about the time I go on the cruise.......I don't know which I'm more excited about the cruise or the contest............Yes......I do....sshhhhhhhhhhhhhh! ................ The cruise, of course! This was my first contest but no matter what happens, it won't be my last........get out there and try these things......you never know how far you'll get.

Happy Birthday

Today is February 5th my brother's birthday. He died in 1989 the way he came into this world.....in my mother's arms. We were 18 months apart and always fighting as siblings do but if anyone else touched him.......big sister was there to the rescue. He was a fiesty little fellow who, from the tender age of 11 months old was discovered that he had Sickle Cell Anemia. That didn't stop him one bit even though around each Christmas holiday, he was quite ill and always in the hospital in Galveston, where the doctors there were great to him all those years ago (1960's) They did their best though little was known about his disease.
David was my hero because no matter how aweful he felt and it was pretty bad most of the time, he didn't want to let it get him down. He always encouraged his hospital mates to hang in there, to fight no matter what.
Mom and I often think and speak about him. David was comical, hard working...when he could work, loving and sometimes as mean as a snake.....lol......but I loved him with all of my heart.
Happy Birthday little brother.......... I miss you lots..........from your big sister.

Umpteenth

This is the umpteeth time that I've packed, repacked, re-repacked, etc......you get the picture. Anyway, I'm down to a large suitcase, a medium suitcase, a carry-on and my across the body purse. Surely, that's enough. By the way, inside each suitcase, I've got compressed airbags filled with all the things I think I'll need or I just wanted to carry for the trip..............Oh, didn't I mention.........I'm going on a cruise in about 22 days.............Ohmygosh!
